USS Zuikaku is my main toons flagships on Star Trek Online. She has had a long history in the game, and ha come a long way in that time, along with her captain. She is also one of the flagships of the Star Trek Online fleet - 101st Fleet. She has a reputation of being a very difficult opponent to kill, as well as a valued teammate in the nastiest of STF queues.

In Game Lore

(Please note, like some players, i don't accept my ship story happens over a two year period, and go with the normal period, which will be listed below).

2411

Launched on Stardate 89694.86, the USS Zuikaku was assigned to then provisional Captain Aaron S. Lawford. Captain Lawford was one of the officers promoted to provisional captain by Admiral Quinn after the second Vega System attack disaster. Starfleet attempted to launch a counter-attack against the Borg in the Vega system. Within hours, hundreds of Starfleet ships were destroyed with the loss of hundreds of well trained officers and captains.

Starfleet Command, deciding the provisional captain needed some seasoning and adjusting to command, sent the Zuikaku to Deep Space Nine. It was believed that at the time, a quiet part of the galaxy would allow the crew to come together and get to know one another. As well as accepting the fact a junior officer had just been given command of a starship.

However, a few days after arriving, the 2800 incident occurred, and the Dominion fleet which had been held in the Bajoran wormhole was released. What was supposed to be a quiet assignment, now threw an inexperienced captain and newly finished starship into a combat situation. USS Zuikaku was orbiting Deep Space Nine at the time, and was straight away placed on the defensive. With some help of other starships USS Zuikaku was able to protect the evacuation shuttles and fall back to Bajor with the rest of the fleet. Over the next several days, USS Zuikaku was on protection duty for Bajor, in case the Dominion tried to further their foothold.

When the counter attack occurred against Deep Space Nine, Zuikaku was part of the task force. The battle was going well, until dominion reinforcements and numbers started to overwhelm the fleet. Zuikaku continued to hold her ground despite multiple hull breaches and system failures. Nearing destruction, the USS Zuikaku was saved my the timely appearance of the USS Enterprise , captained by Shon.  After the battle, USS Zuikaku was one of the ships towed back to Bajor by the Enterprise herself.

Zuikaku spent the next four weeks in the Emissary shipyards orbiting Major undergoing repairs. It would also at this time the ship would gain a celebrity status with the Bajoran people. For a reason that even today the ship and crew cannot understand given the accomplishments of other more famous starships.

After repairs were completed, USS Zuikaku spent a relatively quiet few months around Deep Space Nine targeting Borg groups attempting to take advantage of Starfleet's losses in the sector. It was during these Borg interceptions that USS Zuikaku was accepted into the 101st Fleet, as well as conducting general patrols and exploration.

Later that year on Stardate 90504.71 with the Romulan Republic building up New Romulus, Zuikaku was assigned to New Romulus to assist and to provide security.

The next few months would be relatively quiet for the crew, captain and starship. However, 2412 would thrust the ship, crew and captain, into the line light.
