Description Today, when cycling home through the rain, I was really hoping for a cosy dry place where I could take shelter. Although I'd never fit under one, I immediately thought of the small roadside shrines in the Ghibli movies and Okami. Today I found out those are called hokora.

Inspiration immediately struck me for these two, and boy am I happy with the result! All of this was a real pleasure to work on, and it just rings right somehow.

Thank you! This drawing's style in particular was inspired by the style of the game Okami. Normally my linework is far less heavy, but experimenting and varying is fun from time to time.

Didn't know they're called that either, there was one quite close to our residence in Oosaka back then. I've heard the majority isn't religious but they rather follow the traditions, I think that's still good.
That rain looks like from a Ghibli film or other such anime/cartoon style. Those lines definitely have some Japanese spirit on them, and rain may not be my favourite weather but somehow this looks rather cosy.

I so want to play Ookami! sadly missed the opportunity with the Wii version and they no longer have it in stock... :/

I'd love to see one in real sometime. Well... I want to visit Japan at some point anyway, but right now time and money are a bit of a problem. But luckily, my boyfriend wants to visit it too, so we could save up together.

The rain was drawn mostly independent of cartoons/anime though- it was based on (nighttime) photos and my own experiences. Then again I suppose there aren't that many different ways of drawing rain, actually. Of course depending on how heavy it is.

Oooooh I can highly recommend it. I'm currently watching my boyfriend play it for the first time and it feels so good.

They're rather cute standing there in the midst of the city around. I can definitely recommend it, though it's good to keep in mind you may not always get through with English. With the authorities guiding on stations or airport it shouldn't be a problem, but we had to sometimes just look at the pictures in the menu and point at the one we wanted to order. Sometimes it was difficult to tell if it was chicken or meat. Luckily they had pictures though. XD And buying a ticket is also an interesting experience as the automatons sometimes only speak you Japanese. Going together is a lot more fun and rewarding, I'm sure. I was lucky enough to get there with my friend's family who had been there at least thrice some even more and we didn't even go to a hotel but an Airbnb room. Can recommend those too, although that means you'll probably have to get your food by yourself. And if nothing in the grocery seems quite of interest there's always those ready noodle soups. I'm now self-studying the language in the hopes of getting back with the ability to actually understand things round me too and well, to learn the culture. ^^ That is a lot of work though, as just basic hiragana and katakana won't help you. I bet one couldn't even get through a basic menu with only the two writing systems. So learning kanji is kind of a must. ^^


Hmm, rain is actually what I haven't drawn that much so I cannot say. Probably. It also almost never gets caught by my camera...


I've watched the trailer and some gameplay on Youtube, and listened some soundtracks, seems like a masterpiece. Nice!
