Here's Mel, Virgil, and Rainbow from Portal Stories: Mel for my AU.

Mel is a tough but feminine former Olympian with a Southern accent and a headstrong nature. She's a test subject suspended in time since the 1950s, whose adventure began after Chell was put into extended relaxation, but before she can be wakened for another round.

Virgil falls for Mel as soon as he sees her, when she rescues him from Aperture's junkyard. He's just really bad at expressing it, not to mention he's an old, kind of busted up model. So when the suave, handsome Rainbow swoops into the picture flirting with Mel, he knows he's been beat.

But, to make things more complicated, Mel's goal is to escape Aperture. She can't afford to stay put for one of them. Yet, for either core, leaving would mean giving up everything he has. There's some very difficult choices laid out for them, but it all comes down to Mel.
