That's quite the pic you got there, even though you just got your black belt since this pic. I didn't think that toes were supposed to be flexed back when implementing a kick. Are they?

For most Taekwon-do kicks, yes they are. This is a turning kick/, also known as a round house kick (with a little artistic license I admit) in which the ball of the foot is used to hit the target, you would break your toes if you did not pull them back in this manner, the same kick can be used without the toes pulled back but in that case the top of the foot (the instep) would be used and the kick would look slightly different although still a turning kick, that version would be used for sparring as opposed to breaking boards.
There are some people who have incredibly strong toes and can break wooden boards with them, The Shaolin monks for example, but for the most part martial artists use parts of the body that are already stronger that the other parts, the fist, the knife-hand, the ball of the foot, the side of the foot, the elbows etc.
You of course can go on to develop weaker parts like the toes and fingers if you so choose to, but it takes a lot of dedication, and truth be told, those styles tend to be limited to various kung-fu styles, I know taekwon-do rarely uses those parts, I don't know about martial arts like jujitsu and the like. I occasionally practice with my fingers, but due to a medical condition (fallen arches) I cant develop my toes in such a manner
sorry for the long answer but I hope it explains what you wanted to know

Ah it's all good. It actually helps really.
The anatomy of the foot can be tricky for an artist. But to be truthful, I shouldn't say anything in this case because I have never drawn the five-toe human look on furries. Nor do I ever intend to due to difficulty and comfort. I stick to the three toed paw look. Now don't get me wrong, whatever you decide to draw is up to you and you alone. I'm just explaining my preferences and such.
Sorry to deviate from a different topic, but I juts wanted to explain my piece.

Cool! It's a great form of meditation, isn't it?
I worked the corner of my ex girlfriend who was a boxer. At the time at her size there wasn't any real weight class for her, so we took what we could. I got this AWESOME gig for her that she made a mint on. But turned out the Colorado Sports Commission misinformed me about pro licensing. So nothing made it to the records. But we had fun! I did a couple toughman competitions.
I'd love a commission. I will note you information later. It's 6 AM and I need a nap. But I have a few to consider for you. I like to make things as fun as possible for an artist. One is boxing related with women, the other is basically based off Shootboxing (Basically what constituted Ultimate Fighting Championships but not as "Extreme")
Note ya later!

Allrighty, I'll check out your commission info and get to that tonight. I won't think you're ignoring me. I am very patient as long as the person I commission is willing to get in touch once in a while. (One person I commission in 1997 and she hasn't done it yet. But she and her husband stay in touch and I trust them greatly.)
Take care and I'llget all the info down for ya.
Martial Arts is a blast! I used to be really good. My mentor took a look at my strength and weaknesses and taught me what would fit my physical makeup the best. Savate, Vale tu do, Kenpo, Russian Commando Sambo, and so on. I miss those days. I'm gettin' OLD!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Foxxie-Angel In reply to RTShields [2005-12-30 16:27:12 +0000 UTC]
tags are what denotes a grade in between belt grades the belts are as follow:
white
white/yellow tag
yellow
yellow/green tag
green
green/blue tag
blue
blue/red tag
red
red/black tag
black I dan (1st degree assistant instructor)
black II dan (2nd degree assistant instructor)
black III dan (3rd degree assistant instructor)
black IV dan (4th degree instructor)
black V dan (5th degree instructor)
black VI dan (6th degree instructor)
black VII dan (7th degree Master)
black VIII dan (8th degree Master)
black IX dan (9th degree Grand Master)
I probably would make Grand master till I'm about 50-60 XD

ooooooo okay, but don't black belts go to level 12?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Foxxie-Angel In reply to RTShields [2005-12-31 16:56:52 +0000 UTC]
No, in ITF its only as far as ninth degree and considering ITF was the first style of Taekwon-do technically all others should only have 9 degrees of black belt. a lot of other styles add more on but technically they dont really mean anything. you dont learn anything new after 6th degree only develop on what you have.
