Okay, this is my entry for Okami-Rain's contest. Just two days before the deadline, yay!Erm... The mermen in the pic is Shizuku, one of my personal favorites (other is Hire) out of OR's mermen OCs. The theme is Ocean Conservation. I'm somewhat anxious that I maybe tortured her OC too much, but she said we should portray a problem the ocean life faces and well... this is my way of portraying it.
First pic ever without lineart. I'm pretty proud how it came out, considering how it looked at the beginning. Also, not sure if the oil spill and its viscosity is portrayed correctly since I couldn't find any good photos describing it.
Yes, it's an oil spill. There was this recent oil spill in America and that got me thinking of the ocean life there and how they must be suffering. Of course that got me thinking of OR's mermen too...
Hope to win the subscription for three months, tho I doubt I'll manage that (it's only for first place sadly). Oh well.

Yep, it's out ^^ Tho now that I'm on the sea I don't really get much computer time since my whole family wants a piece of it
No worry, criticism is welcome. I plan on trying to better my art while school is out, but we'll see. I'm also sorry for not replying to all those comments/replies from before, I had so much schoolwork to do, and coupled with the limited internet

It's alright, I can understand life going crazy. ^_^ Happened enough times to me. Hehe, took me three days to reply to this yeah? I've spent the past week trying to beat the game (Kingdom Hearts) that my sister lent me, since I'm heading up to see her today. Just finished it, and the final total of hours was *drum roll* 41 HOURS!!! So, about 7 hours short of a full two days playing one videogame. ^_^ But I totally kicked butt on it. And got the special ending. Except now it's making me want to write a fic inspired by it. But for the kingdom hearts fandom not the detective conan....and I got a new idea for a detective conan story while playing. Too many ideas running through my head.
But yeah, enough rambling. Good luck with trying to get internet time. Sounds like it's going to be a bloodbath, jk

And me it took... five days Actually I was writing a reply yesterday, when I had to look the Conan's face-palm icon up and well... Thought I did reply.
Wow, that's amazing, I know I always take my time with games, a few months a time at lest. I'm curious about KH for some time now, but can't get it T_T Searched the net far and wide, but am afraid of viruses, like the one with the Digimon Game I downloaded. No computer while on summer vacation IS NOT FUN. Your sister downloaded it or bought it? Would love to know a good site for game downloads...

Okay, I'd like to make an in depth comment on this, except I can't really see the picture. Not your fault but the new layout deviantArt made doesn't always work for me.
From what I can see of the fuzzy image though, I quite like it. And sadly I had a pretty good idea where the inspiration came from. Right now it sort of sucks to be American. T_T Glad you portrayed the disaster of it for life though, what with all the idiots so concerned about the politics and money in it.
One thing though, since you're sky is really dark and cloudy, the ocean color should reflect that. You wouldn't see so much bright blue. Ex. [link] is a pic I found demonstrating how dark the water might be.
Really that's my only criticism though, hope you do well!

I know *whines petulantly* it's just that my mind is screwed up DX I'm not that good an artist, and after spending three days or so trying and failing to work out a decent BG, I just spat out what I had ready. But really, the ocean was bright azzure in the beginning, that has to count for something, ne? T_T
Ugh.
