Description After spending hours upon hours and reading countless tutorials for Ultra Fractal and not really coming up with anything decent, I decided to fire up the old Apophysis and came up with this

Now if I could just figure out how to load Apo files in UF since the formulas/plugins haven't been kept updated/compatible in years

Made in Apophysis2.07beta and PSP X

thanks, I just lucked out with the gradient as I didn't know as much about how to manipulate the gradients back then

Hi there TJ  you are most welcome of course, happy to hear/read from you
I meant to ask your opinion on some sort of "minituto" I made for Céline, to give her an idea of how the variables in the dc_cyl2 work (my interpretation that is) This is the link

If you think it's more or less reasonable we may use it in the resources gallery of the group I am a moderator there and Céline is the founder.
Take care and don't worry if you can't respond quickly big

you pretty much nailed it, the offset is where you want the gradient to start from instead of the normal 0 spot. The way I described the angle was think of fruit striped gum, but twist is pretty much the same thing. The scale is just like you said (sets the distance (or width) between gradient colors, smaller scale produces more color lines but to me seems like it tended to make some of my renders kinda ugly, but in art beauty is in the eye of the beholder The cyl2_x is the width like if you activated post transform and changed the value (that's why I added them as variables so they can be manipulated with the mouse and not just the keyboard or in the editor), looking at it now I should have set the default for cyl2_y at 1 because that would be the default cylinder size and would make more sense if you just added it without changing variables but not a big deal. cyl2_blur is the same as the normal pre_blur but built into the plugin itself. What was odd was after making this one and setting cyl2_blur to 0 and adding normal pre_blur it doesn't work the way I thought it should have.  Basically DC_Cylinder (which had an odd defect in spreading the whole gradient across the screen sometimes) and DC_cylinder2 are replacements for a normal Cylinder+Preblur BUT with the added function of having the Direct Coloring option.  To do that before you would have had to use Cylinder+preblur+a dc plugin (DC_Linear for example which is what is also built into the DC_Cylinder plugins) and the preblur using it that way blurred out most of the coloring which is what inspired me to create the DC_Cylinder ones as they don't have that negative effect.  What I like to do is set the DC_Color option on the transform to 0.5 and try to get a two-toned cylinder, a good example would be this one , you can see how it created about a 3 toned ribbon, not easily done with a normal cylinder+preblur+dc_linear.  Another effect (which is actually caused by an error in the original ROD code that I didn't fix *Rod available here zephyrtronium.deviantart.com/a… is the "shiny's" on the cylinder that pop out sometimes like in this dev:   , that give it that almost plastic/balloon look. The color and color speed functions will have NO effect if the Direct Color option on the Colors tab is set to 1, anything less than 1 and they will have an effect, this gives you even more color options when tweaking your flame.
Don't expect your flame to do anything if you move those sliders or change those values if the DC_Color on that transform is set to 1, that's what the variables are taking over. Setting the DC variables to 0 will make the plugin work similar to regular cylinder with no DC effect but with a slight difference, adjust the cyl_x and cyl_y values to set the size of your cylinder.  It did seem to me like it does have a slightly longer render time than using normal cylinder+preblur but to me the end result was worth it.

Thank you TJ for the reply, by now you must have received the note with the link to the "Mini-tuto" as I say in the comments of the submission
it is --for me-- a truly addictive plugin, I use it in almost all of my "creations"  Love colour !

I use it daily, but with my slow pc and low memory I don't do a lot of renders unless I can do them overnight. I have 100's I've never rendered that are in this style, they just take a long long time to render
Thanks for visiting and the , I appreciate it!

I like the colours and it looks quite liquid

FracFx In reply to ladydetemps [2008-05-02 13:47:13 +0000 UTC]

I was going for the liquid look from the start, just a little bit of Cross or Z_Cross (I prefer the Z version) on a transform gives it that liquid/oily look
Someone said it looked like a bunch of dogs stuck in honey (I don't see that at all)
Thanks for the !

WHOA. How is this not well-received? It's so bright and dramatic!

And I love winglike qualities and haloic swoops inherent to so much of your work, the unearthly glow; like kaleidescopes full of the remnants of angels.

hmm thought about that for a bit and think it's because of what I named it, too close to Taliban, lol
Someone asked me what my "style" would be categorized as, I guess it would be "Angels" since I like doing the wings and such and I'm pretty good at the cross effects. Thanks for visiting

Not many people seem to like this one much either over the UF one I just did, luckily I have some new plugins to toy around with
thanks for the
