Day 99: Went out to check out the night sky conditions just south of town. Luckily we live not far from a highway that goes straight away from the worst light pollution of Rapid City, so this is only 20-25 minutes from our door. Didn't bring the tracking mount or anything fancy, but still took a few frames of a Milky Way that made me feel very small. The Lakota believe (as do many other groups around the world) that the Milky Way is a road that the spirits take to the heavens. Even as a non-religious person, when viewed from a pristine dark sky, I can certainly understand how the Milky Way is almost universally associated with heaven and the afterlife
