... sometimes they blend nearly seamlessly

That's something I love about the country. Sure, man's presence is everywhere. In the country, however, it's much less noticeable.
The sky was very unique that evening. Stormy spots, sunny spots, and the occasional patch of blue sky. Very beautiful!

The beauty of nature is crystal clear especially when there is no man or distractions to take away its scenerical view of vastness. The connection between land and sky really blends nicely together with the sun overlaying the view with a warm, comforting tone. Great shot btw!

The kit lens is just the standard lens that came on the camera when I bought it. Nothing specialized (i.e. wideangle or macro).
HDR stands for High Dynamic Range. Basically, you take several images of the same exact scene, except at different exposure levels. When you blend the images (I use Photomatix) you get the detail and color from all the highlights and shadows

In this case, the secret is HDR "tonemapping" which brings out all the under-and over-exposed detail/color
