This is so evocative of how I feel when I sit down with a good book; you just get so immersed in the story that you aren't even registering the words any more, you have images dancing through your mind. It's such a wonderful experience, and you've done a wonderful job depicting that here. It makes me want to grab a book and read right now.
...I wouldn't want to be on that ship, though. At World's End, anyone?

I like the idea a lot. To me, it really fits the theme; the book, which have a whole symbolic in themselves, revealing not a map, but a ship, the incarnated travel and exploration, navigating in a bay of an unexplored island...
