Description This custom made ornament showcases my love for Dutch musician Arjen Anthony Lucassen's science fiction band Ayreon. His music is an out-of-this-world blend of progressive and metal styles combined with elements not heard since the Beetles and Pink Floyd. I was introduced to his music on Youtube as a suggestion. The first song I clicked on was Loser from the Human Equation album. Next I sampled the song Love and suffice to say fell IN love with his wide range of musical magic.

My dad (a fan of oldies) was wowed by his music. It's a beautiful story, but it was a burned copy of his Arjen's album Actual Fantasy that created a deep bond between us. Due to complications unmentioned, we weren't close but when I shared this album with him, we realized how much we had in common and whenever we went out in the car together, we would listen to his cd. I remember on the last day before he ended up in the hospital, he was singing with my most favourite song on the album Back On Planet Earth. He told me how much he loved the song. It was sweet. He was also impressed that he liked a Dutch musician. I was in contact with Arjen on My Space and have many great memories talking to him.

When my dad passed away, my family and I played Actual Fantasy and had it cremated with him along with a copy of Star Wars, my sister Leona Rivet's original music tape, and Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (some of his very favourite things). It is a sad but beautiful gathering of memories.

The entire ornament is made from scratch. It is bound together by four metal wires, a wide array of glass and genuine gemstone beads, carefully chosen to resemble a galactic circle. I gave the spaceship a touch of bling using gold Folkart Glitterific. To mask two of the most noticeable areas of bound wire, I looped them with a silver ribbon.

Credits to my craft supplies: the purple ribbon up top came from Walmart. The black elongated beads, the saucer shaped blues and the clear squares are from Michaels, additionally to the hexagon hematite.
The round red beads, as well as the orange/white and gold/teal combos are from Hobby Lobby. The brown amazonite beads , and micro green rainbow foils were also bought there.
The eye-catching red diamond shapes are from eBay.
