Tim Burton returns as director, as he, along with Daniel Waters and Wesley Strick, came up with the theme of revenge for Batman Returns is that Batman realizes that revenge has becoming his whole life, Catwoman had revenge on her mind, and The Penguin had revenge on his mind. Tim made The Penguin as a bad freak, and Selina Kyle as a lonely secretary for Max Shreck (who's the real villain of the film, and he's not Harvey Dent, never Harvey Dent). The backlash of the film led to Tim Burton passing on the torch to his friend Joel Schumacher to continue with the franchise.
