And Danny DeVito was the only choice for The Penguin when Daniel Waters wrote the character with his voice in mind, and Wesley Strick came up with an idea of the first born sons of Gotham City.

Tommy Lee Jones was the only choice for Two-Face in Batman Forever when writers Lee and Janet Scott Batchler wrote the character with his voice in mind, and Jones accepted the role, because the character of Two-Face was his son's favorite character. And Joel Schumacher wanted Robin Williams to play The Riddler in the same film with the Batchlers writing it with his comedic delivery, and Akiva Goldsman talked to Robin about The Riddler in his kitchen. Robin read the script and he loved it. Due to a salary dispute, the role went to Jim Carrey.

Warner Bros. were begging for Julia Roberts and Sharon Stone to play Poison Ivy, but then, they made a mistake of having Uma Thurman in the role. As for Harley Quinn, Joel had both Madonna and Courtney Love on the list for the role in Batman Unchained before Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy.
