I have played the first one, but honestly it was not to my taste. I found the gameplay too fraught and did not enjoy repeating each level over and over... I can see why people like it, though. It is very stylish and the music is fantastic. It is also refreshingly different from other games around at the moment.

Yeah, I understand why you feel that way. In the second one you control different characters and they put a lot of effort in the story, but it is told in smal details that are there when you are playing.
And the music in the second is somehow even better! I'll leave you some sample. I think it's called New Retro Wave/Synthwave, and it's new music but with an 80's sci fi/horror thematic.
