BTW, if you're going to buy a PS3, you need to get Valkyria Chronicles. I think we've talked about this before, but I simply cannot stress enough - BUY IT!!! 
I have to warn you, though. I've told you this before, but I feel I need to say it once more just for good measure - the PS3 is nothing like the PS2. Or, should I say, the library of games for the PS3, but not the PS3 itself. The PS3s hardware/design/performance is terrific, but its library for JRPGs sucks bad. The library of games on it are noooottthhhing like that of the PS2. PS2 had fresh original titles. PS3 has pretty much sold out to try and beat the XBOX360. Most of the titles are crappy online shooters, just like with the XBOX360. That's about it. And most of them sucked really bad, so 70% of them are empty online. Anyway, in the grand scheme of things, the JRPG isn't all that marketable anymore, unless you live in Japan (or so it seems). So don't expect to play a whole lot of good games on it. I've owned mine for 5 years, and here is the list of games I thought were worth playing (all genres):
-Valkyria Chronicles (the closest thing to a stellar JRPG we have(stellar: absolutely, JRPG: not exactly an RPG...) other than D3 - and it's also ALMOST enough of a reason on its own to buy a PS3, just to play Valkyria Chronicles)
-Disgaea 3
-RE5 (it's good on PS3 
-Uncharted 1
-Uncharted 2
-Heavy Rain
-Red Dead Redemption
-GTA4
-The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion
-Fallout 3 (not New Vegas)
-Mass Effect 2, if they don't f*** it up (I have it on PC)
-Bad Company 2 (I do like the occasional well done FPS...)
-Dead Space
-Robert Ludlums: The Borne Conspiracy (surprisingly entertaining, while it lasts)
-Just Cause 2
-MGS4
-Assassins Creed games are alright
-OH YEAH! Beyond Good & Evil will be remastered and available for purchase via PSN within a year or so, if all goes well
The few PS3 JRPGs not listed (only two are on my list, but only like 7 exist outside of Japan) I either haven't played or didn't enjoy.
Well, that's pretty much it. Yup. $300 for the PS3 console + average of $40 per game listed, and keep in mind that the SP of most of those games is a few hours. Is it worth it? If you'll use the blu-ray player it is. If not? Well, it depends. No matter what though, DO NOT sell your PS2. I virtually ONLY play PS2 games these days... I would never trust an emulator to replace the true hardware. The PS2 emulators on PC are buggy as heck. I would suspect that they would be on a PS3 as well. The day you hear them announce Persona 5 on PS3, (OUTSIDE OF JAPAN) go for it. I'm sure that game will be worth $360

Also, this has been my personal opinion. I also am still a PS fanboy (for life)

really interesting list, (sorry i took so much time to reply!) My priorities are MGS4 and Red Dead Redemption C: I'll see what i'll pick then.
about the ps2 emulation, i managed to replay p3 and p4 from beginning to end without problems really, and that was some time ago, i guess they upgraded the emu by now.

Ooh I finished Layton like two days ago (first 3 games), god, why no one told me earlier this is so awesome *A* I loved those backgrounds, music, characters (Clive and Antooon <3)and all three stories (so sad ;___; )

Hellboy is very very recommended, specially if you like dark european mythological stories, Hellboy's story is sad too, he's a tragic character, that's why he's always pissed xD he's a paranormal detective of demonic origin, but he's more human than many many humans, he's got a heart of gold despite how he looks (or how people discriminate him) the atmosphere is very dark and full of occult and myths background, you must read it :3

ahahha, well, there's no official connection except my friend likes both charaacters a lot.
and well, hellboy's a detective of paranormal activities and the occult, so that kinda fits with layton, so they could easily be friends.
