I'm happy I finally finished this. To be honest I was very frustrated with the line art and coloring. Thankfully, the colors seem to work together just fine(imo). I hope you like it!
I kinda forgot that we agreed to do a sketch art trade... I ended up going all outΒ and added a background lol

I like the steampunk feelinf here. I think the background with those gears were good additions in this case. The clothes are very nice and have a pretty design. I think the textures look good and add a little something without being too conspicious. However, I think the clothing sits too tight on her skin in some parts. It's especially noticable on her fingers and shoulders. The material looks like leather, which tends to be pretty thick, but even if it was very thin and skin-tight cloth, it would still stand out from the skin a bit. You averted this well with her bracelets, belts and the wider parts of her gloves.
The anatomy looks mostly good. I think that her facial proportions are a bit off, though, I feel that the details should all be a bit higher. I also get the feeling that her right arm is too long and that the other arm should be visible, judging from the angle of the body and the position of the hand. The hands themselves look good, but I think the way she's holding the cigarette is a bit unstable. I also didn't even notice she had one at first, it disappears a bit in this spot. By the way, I love how you did the smoke, it looks great!
I love the colors and your shading. But I think the shading is a bit inconsistent. For example, I think that there should be some stronger shadows on the left half of her face. Also, there are some strong shadows on her fingers, but they don't extend to her gloves, which makes them look a bit flat.
As for the lineart, I think it looks good as it is. Though if you're unhappy with it and want to make it more lively, it often helps to vary line thickness a bit. It can work wonders at times.

I actually used a photograph as reference for this pic, it didn't show the other elbow either, i find it odd now that i look back at this pose, and the lady on the photograph actually held the cigarette that way, looks cool but also unstable

So is this someone from a specific manga? Just wondering how much of the design is yours and how much is based on something else.
But since I don't know, I'm just going to assume you designed the whole thing.Β
This one popped out in the list of art for me to comment because I LOVE steampunk! Gears always get me. Your art is good enough to be any manga artist. I read lots of Japanese manga (I'm born and raised Japanese), and your skill would put you spot on the middle I think. So if that's your goal, I think you are there. But I like art that are more realistic or accurate...hmm, it's hard to describe. But more graphic novel style art, more punch, etc. So I'm going to tailor my comment toward that. If that's useless to you, please just ignore it as our art style is very different.
The composition is good. But I'd move the cigarette. You don't hold cigarette like that (I think it'll fall off), plus as it aligns with the girl's face and hair, its impact is lessened. I'd recommend angling it more perpendicular to her fingers.Β
Line work, despite you being super frustrated, is great! I find drawing clean lines with digital art super hard, so kudos to you. There is nothing I can add there.
Shading is very carefully done, and I admire that. But I think you could choose more bold colours. It's sepia and washed out right now, and that may be on purpose because it's steampunk and all. But stronger contrast in colours would bring out this piece a lot more. You could also shade different textures differently. For example, skin and metallic objects reflect lights very differently. So softer shading on skin, and harder shading with strong contrast for metals would add more depth and character to the piece.Β
Anatomy is mostly okay except that left hand resting on the stomach looks a bit like it's not connected to anything. It may be just the angle and position, but you may want to use a model and double check that.Β
That's it. To reiterate, it's fine as is. I'm just nitpicking because this is project comment and I'm supposed to add something constructive. Please take what you need and ignore what you don't. Keep up the great work!

I find that when I use photo reference, I end up with weird body parts. I think it's because of the shading. If we use the same proportion but shade it wrong, parts can look disproportional.Β
