This was another assignment in my History of Graphic Design class. the assignment was to create an illuminated manuscript we were allowed to follow or re-interpret an original so long as there were elements of it incorporated.

I don't know why but I went all out & fucking Book of Kells'ed it! I even painted over the yellow with gold ink! XD The whole concept was of course inspired by Regina Spektor's beautiful song Hero which can be found here: [link] and with most fans is more closely connected with 500 days of summer, but I wanted to do something that presents my interpretation of the words and how they relate to my own personal life experiences. What I am illustrating with this piece is how we can do and become terrible things that seem right and true simply because we are the protagonists of the story we're living out. There is a certain amount of blindness we have to our own actions that causes us to overlook what they shape us into. I chose to give the knight features that were dark and twisted, almost alien, yet still resplendent in gold to show that though in our pride & self absorption these things may seem righteous to us, we cannot see how they are in fact turning us into monsters.
