Another illustration for my 7 images university project based on Neil Gaimans' 'American Gods' novel.This is one of the final 7 images, of the strange buffallo headed naked man in the cave who appears throughout the novel in Shadows dreams, giving him hints and puzzling questions about the gods. He is, as Shadow discovers towards the end, not a god but the spirit of America.

I have tried to draw this being upon a few occasions, to absolutely no avail. Your illustrations is very simplistic yet incredibly effective. Not sure whether or not the 'censoring' was intentional, yet that is my only real quarrel with this image. Lovely work.

Thank you for your kindness - it is a simple picture, loosely drawn with only a suggestion of setting and severe lighting.
Looking at these illustrations now 3 years on from drawing them I can see many problems; the censoring was not intentional, I have no problem with complete nudity but now I wonder why on earth such a shaggy creature has no pubic hair? Or body hair, for that matter?
I was always happy with the buffalo head though - such a juxtaposition, a huge buffallo head on a human body quite clearly divided and not an amalgamation, but the head does not look like a mask, it worked out well; it looks real, heavy and sad.
Where are his ears? I also wonder now...

I thought the Buffalo said he represented the Earth? Like, as a whole? I always thought the fire he was stoking was supposed to represent the earth's core in the center.
Unless he meant the "earth" as in the dirt beneath America, but I'm not so sure... Either way, nice piece, well done ^^

A rather bizzare, no, an incredibly bizzare Japanese film where I'm not going to tell you the plot cos you'd probably think I was out of my mind if I did.
In any case, at some point in the film a man with a cow's head appears
