Description Curious, this silence -
When the clean hum of electronics, warm and comforting to me as the womb
Slides off, falling into the deskside garbage can of nothing,
My ears, cut loose from their bindings, fall back. I'm not here,
Nor is anyone else.

It's a sensation -
An itch, the sound of cool music that never played still ringing in my ears
Unborn, but heard. I wonder if they've snuck in somehow, this band, the sweet
Singing of a woman heard so clearly by me in all silence. She knows me,
But doesn't.

I fast resort to fidgeting,
Trying to make noise where naturally there isn't, my computer turned back on
For the sheer thrill of hearing its warming whine, much uncaring for matters
Of efficiency or thrift. Alone, my mind sings tunes not meant for my ears,
And I'd rather prefer silence.
