Description
My shifting eyesthey cannot rest
and therefore I cannot sleep
for even with the nightlight on
I know that creatures creep
There's nothing there
of that I'm sure
I've turned the light back on to check
but the moment that it's turned back off
I've descended back into sleepless heck

I loved the line "sleepless heck." It got the point across. It was cute without taking away the hard edge of the theme. It humanized the protagonist, making the dread all the more believable. I've experienced the narrator's dilemma! I remember seeing my shadow move without me. The unease is genuine and the sincerity of the poem makes it scary... without any blood, guts or the like.
