Description Proverbs 13:12
Hope deferred makes the grow heart sick,
but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.

This is me, still in diapers, already longing to have a dog. I asked for one every single birthday of my life, but every single year mom never gave in. Now I have 2 dogs of my own and in a year and a half I'll be a vet...
Hehe...this dog was technically "mean" and I wasn't really suppossed to go anywhere near the fence. But back then I was drawn to dogs like a magnet to steel. They had to pry me away from this fence.

Fence was a pain in the butt, as well as the individual blades of grass I so carefully drew in one-by-one.
I'll upload the reference when I find the old photo.

Graphite pencil on paper
2003? I think.

Awww, that's just how I was! I always made friends with the "mean dogs", and stray dogs, and any dog I could get to come near me. My parents finally gave in late in highschool -My stepdad was new to the family and therefor my begging for dogs situation and told me to do some research and he'd consider it. Long story short I ended up with a wonderful dog. She's here at college with me where she belongs, where I'm working on my vet school applications.

I'm inspired by your beautiful artwork, and your story. Thanks for sharing!

This drawing is just so lovely! The detail is stunning, I just love it.

Thank you so much for your kind words! I just checked out your gallery--your Flatty is gorgeous! I had one as a patient one time, and I swear I could have stolen him he was so nice. Sadly he had histiocytic sarcoma at the young age of 6yrs. Not sure if I cried more or his owners. :/
That is awesome that you are applying to vet school! It is a frustrating and tedious process but worth it in the end! (That is, if you don't really care about sleep...or money...or a life, lol).
Are you applying to Michigan State at all? If not you should! I'm bias of course, because it's my alma mater, but its a great school. Are you looking to do large animal or small or both?

You're most welcome.
And thank you! They really are amazing dogs. It's heartbreaking when their lives are cut short like that. :/
I'm excited about it! Sleep and money are overrated anyway. XD
I have an aunt in Michigan telling me I should apply there too, I might just have to consider it. (:
I've been shadowing both small and large as much as possible. Both are exciting and interesting in their own ways. I'm probably leaning toward small animal though just because I have such a love of dogs.

Oh that is great that you are shadowing both. That will really help you in your application process, even if you do intend to do small only. They like well rounded people, and like to know that you are familiar with all areas of the profession.
Good luck (if you believe in luck...!)

Thanks!
Well, I'm hoping it helps anyway. In the meantime, it really has been a great experience. I'm so glad to have gotten to know both groups of vets that I shadow. I really have met some great people and seen some amazing things.

Wow! Can't believe I've missed this one! And, I agree with your comments about what you learned from not getting a dog, but, I also agree with your statement "kids need dogs like they need food!" That is so true!

lol, and in your and my case, we need dogs maybe more than we need food! <3

Yep! I'll have to agree with that one! I can barely remember being without a dog, my entire life, except for the few months between Susie's death and the addition of Eddie and also while I was in Paramedic School. But, I had no time for a dog then. That would've just been too unfair to any animal. I was only home a few hours a night, if that, and I was dead to the world, sleeping as fast as I could, before it was time to get up and go again!

This is incredible artwork - congratulations.

Your picture brought back a similar childhood memory for me also.

I wish I had more time to peruse your gallery this evening since from what I've seen this is a fantastic gallery. I will be back when I have time to really take my time to view your work.

Take care... Joyce:wave

Aww, glad you finally got your doggies!
But sad you didn't get that experience when you were young. Every kid should have a dog.

FreeMeadows In reply to pariahpoet [2008-10-25 21:24:26 +0000 UTC]

I totally agree! But it did teach me to work for things, to never give up, and to deal with it when people tell me "No". But seriously, kids need dogs like they need food
