"Illumise stole the wild Pokémon's Sitrus Berry!"

This is an illustration I did for Game-Art-HQ 's Pokémon Generation 3 collaboration - and boy is it busy already with people sweeping in for spots! Both of their previous projects were great fun to be a part of and so fun to see everyone's interpretations of various moves, so I felt very happy to go in again and see what I can send in for those first seen in the Hoenn region! Our POKEMON Generation III Tribute (64/270)

Like announced, we start our Pokemon Generation III earlier than the previous 2 and you can claim your first pick right now!
The rules are for the most part the same as last year.

We illustrate the Pokemon without a background and use the .png format for them, so we have a transparent bg. The main theme is also to illustrate each Pokemon while it is performing one of its attacks, moves, abilities. Similar as in the 3 examples from last year.
The moves don't have to be from Generation III but since we are tributing Gen III, it would be awesome if you can pick a Gen III move or ability.

Every artist can pick up to four Pokemon but only one at a time.
We got the previous two Art Collaborations done before Christmas and I hope we will be able to publish the Gen III Tribute again at Xmas.

Obviously the first Pokémon I illustrate when I do this has to be a female. Illumise is one of only two female-only Pokémon in the game albeit not one you'd use competitively due to her average stats, but she's a huge benefit to those that play Pokémon Ruby and Emerald. Her male counterpart Volbeat is more common in Sapphire and otherwise only has a 1% chance of showing up at Route 117 in the other two games, but Illumise is very similar to Nidoran in that she can produce eggs that contain either her own species *or* Volbeat if the father is in a compatible egg group. Link cable? What link cable?

Anyway, I even kept close to the spirit of healing moves (sort of) by going for a fun move yet to be illustrated in these tributes. Covet allows the user to steal a held item from a wild Pokémon, or even a trainer's Pokémon up until Generation 5. This generation also brought in a wider range of berries and effects associated with them including renaming those initially introduced in Generation 2, so if you steal a berry and the effects kick in to use it - in the case of a Sitrus Berry, losing so much HP then eating it straight away to recover - then that counts as kind of a healing move. You can even use it to steal rarer items for use on your team, like shards from Clamperl and Relicanth, the all-important King's Rock from Hariyama, Dragon Scales from the Bagon line and other really cool things x)

Obviously I wanted to aim for a pounce in the drawing and a little less effects when focusing on the motion... and hearts. Because the sin of coveting gets your heart moving, right? Either way, the pose was very challenging considering all I could do to figure out an accurate pose is a mixture of bringing one into Pokémon Refresh in Ultra Moon and looking up pictures of cats. She's pretty big for a firefly, but honestly, pounces are so cute and demonstrate thievery well! It's also the first time I attempted manga-style speed lines as well - I'm getting up there!

I'm hyped to draw a few more of these! I don't know what direction to go next, but they'll still be a lot of fun to work on in addition to my on-going challenge of 365 sketches throughout the entire year , in which the initial Illumise sketch is today's entry. Either way, I'm hyped for 2018!
