This image is another contribution for the thenintendogirlsclub 's Nintendolympics collab. The project got shelved at this time last year due to Tokyo 2020 getting postponed, but it recently got revived with an intent to have a full collaborative set even if the olympics gets skipped over. Anyway, it's actually in two parts this time - the club still focused on female characters in Nintendo games participating in any of the scheduled sports, meanwhile its sister club Smash-New-Universe has a focus on male characters doing the exact same thing. Since this post has a male character, I will link to their journal and encourage you to check it out:
Tokyo 2020 Nintendolympics Collab (B) (Revived)I think today is a good time to continue this once-postponed collab since I want all participants to take their time to do their entries. Hopefully, all artists are doing what they can to recover. Note that we will not be cancelling this collab, regardless of what happens to the real Olympics. No exceptions. Think about it this way: If Tokyo 2020 actually gets canceled, this art project will make up for it! (Girls' Team) Please do not ask for solo female characters in this journal in Smash-New-Universe.Chose any Nintendo boy you can think of, who will then be added to the list. You must also ask for a sport.If you want, a female character (PLEASE specify) from the same franchise/universe and playing the same sport (ex: www.google.com/search?q=magica…) may accompany a male.Solo Pokemon are allowed regardless of gender.Pokemon characters can be paired with Pokemon, though this is optional.We also accept 3rd-party characters from Mega Man, Sonic, Pac-Man, etc., as long as they have appeared in games for Nintendo consoles, or as Spirits from Smash Bros. For my second image - which the sketch was nailed last year - I ended up going more comedic with my search for non-taken sports at the time. While partway through what I did with Tom Nook, I saw Iwatchcartoons715 take on Crash Bandicoot for one of her contributions, using Skylanders Imaginators and the series' four guest figures as a reason. Bowser and Donkey Kong got exclusive figures for the Wii and 3DS versions of Superchargers and can also get used in the Wii U version of Imaginators, making it possible for either of them to get used in a co-op session with Crash and the other guest - which is, of course, good ol' Neo Cortex. So thanks to her, I got a chance to work with a series close to me in a collab like this!

Among the non-taken sports at the time was surfing, a new addition to the Olympic programme. Cortex had used a jetboard frequently in boss fights throughout the series, as well as using it as a means of movement in Imaginators, so it made sense to ditch the engine and put the idea across water. Following that, it made sense for his expression to be like "why the hell am I here" while even attempting to hang ten. The wetsuit has more of a sleek design to match more modern ones, all while keeping the colour scheme similar to his lab uniform. You also don't usually cover your hands and feet while surfing, though, but I still gave him gloves and shoes as his feet had never been seen bare and he's rarely seen without lab gloves anyway. And yes, that is the tech element emblem from Skylanders, which makes up for neither a role in Smash nor an emblem to go with it.

The goroawase on his wetsuit reads 131 - "i-sa-i", or genius. I guess smugness in the brain smarts rolls in anyone involved with evil science.

And I'm glad I got the chance to finish this image! With the amount of commitments I threw myself into, I doubt I'd take on any others - but I'm always willing to keep my options open. I'll also get the second female one up later this weekend, but for now, I'm crossing my fingers the Tokyo event will actually go ahead x)
