Gerard had spent the next few weeks with Bert, Nina, and Molly. They had all become a kind of small family and he enjoyed it, very much. Paintings came easily and he was becoming very successful. At galleries he would be witty and charming and if Frank was there with Matt he would come over to greet them so the tabloids wouldn't make up some story of him being jealous or something stupid he didn't want to deal with. He had already been posted in the tabloids, it had involved Frank. Someone had taken a photo of them standing in the gallery together before his show and it talked about how Gerard had gotten angry and yelled at innocent Frank who had stopped by just to make amends for their "fallen" love together. The picture had been when Gerard was upset that Frank had no reason to not leave Matt but seemed to want to blame him for all the problems, so it did look like it fit. Gerard was irritated and figured Frank had only stopped by for a story since it was a little convenient a photographer for a big gossip magazine had just been "walking by" when he saw them and took the shot.

Gerard was sitting in his art room while he painted. Bert had run out to get Chinese for their supper. He looked down at his water which was very dark from the pain colors and decided it was time to rinse it out and get a new jar. It was a ritual of his, to always use a canning jar. He just liked the way the colored watered would look when the sun shined through the jar. If he ever found an interesting mixture of color he would leave it on the sill in his kitchen for the morning sun to hit and to splay the color on the walls.

He got up and walked out into the kitchen, noting the TV had been left on and was playing one of the gossip shows. He wasn't really paying attention until he heard his name and perked up his ears to hear over the water being dumped and refilled. "Gerard Way has another show coming up and many people are very interested to see his new work. Though some people are beginning to wonder how he's taking the news of his old flame, Frank Iero, who was found in a dumpster out back of one of his frequently visited clubs. The cops say that he's in critical condition and might not make it through the night. It turns out that Iero's hot, star boyfriend Matt Hales had been horribly abusing him for over a year. A friend stepped forward once she heard that Matt was a suspect but officials had no proof. Iero has taken abuse for some time and the friend, who wishes to remain anonymous, says she had heard Matt threaten to kill Frank at points of her visits, when Frank did the smallest thing wrong. Matt Hales has been taken into custody and charged with the attempted murder of Frank Iero. Matt Hales reportedly stabbed him multiple times and there were signs of physical and sexual assault.  More details coming soon but first a look into Jennifer Love…" Gerard stared forward as he tried to register what he heard. The glass jar in his hand fell and hit the floor, smashing as water scattered over the tiled.

Gerard ran over to the phone and called his manager. "Hello?" He knew James was probably out with another client but he had to ask him a favor.

"James, this is Gerard. Did you hear about Frank? I need you to find out what hospital he's at," Gerard rambled quickly as his brain moved a mile a minute.

"Gerard, I don't know if I can do that," James said quietly, a little unsure. Gerard could hear people in the background and knew he was out to dinner.

"Listen, I know you have connections and can find him with one phone call. Do it now or find yourself another client to take my place," Gerard barked before he hung up the phone. Gerard was never that rude or snappy but he was upset. He prayed James would call back and tell him it was all a horrible lie, some type of publicity stunt but his gut told him it wasn't.

His phone rang not five minutes later and he quickly answered. It was James and he told Gerard the hospital. Gerard only had time to shoot out a quick, thank you, before he had pulled on his coat and was out the door. He drove to the hospital rather fast before he pulled up in the emergency parking lot. He hoped Frank was still a scatter brain and had forgotten to take him off the top list of guests to see him when being visited at the hospital.

"I'm here for Frank Iero," Gerard said quickly to a nurse in pink scrubs. "I'm Gerard Way."

"Oh, my God. Gerard Way the painter?" She gushed and smiled. "I'm a huge fan."

"Thank you. I'm sorry but I really need to get in," he said, bouncing a little in his spot.

"Oh! Of course. I'm sorry. Go right in. He's in room 250 on the second floor," she smiled without even checking if Gerard was allowed.

Gerard darted to the stairs, saying hell with waiting on an elevator and made it to the second floor. He was breathing hard but quickly found the room he needed. He went inside and saw a curtain pulled around the bed in the room. He quietly shut the door behind him and walked up to it. He didn't dare pull it back now that he was here. He remembered how harsh he had been with Frank. Frank had been trying to explain that he couldn't leave Matt because he would have gotten hurt. Gerard now worried if Frank had tried to leave and that was the reason to why he was behind the curtain. He thought maybe Frank had been crying out to Gerard for help.

Gerard sighed out softly before he pulled the curtain back and stepped in the circle around the bed, the walls of curtain hiding them. Frank lay in the bed with a breathing tube in and his whole chest, wrapped with gauze as it was bandaged carefully. His face was bruised and so were his arms, Gerard was a bit happy he couldn't see Frank's legs. He sighed out sadly and took the seat beside Frank's bed.

He wondered why he was here. He thought he didn't have feelings for Frank anymore but he now realized, as much as he had tried to ignore it, he did. He loved Frank still; he had just given up hope on ever being with him again. He knew that as heartless as he had been he couldn't leave Frank alone in this hospital room. All of Frank's friends would no longer be around since he wasn't with Matt and was only a sob story that was frowned upon in the famous society, unless you were the famous one in the couple. Gerard looked around the room to see no gifts, flowers, or even one card. There was nothing to show that anyone cared for Frank. So while he laid between the balance Gerard called a few people to order him some flowers, picked out a card through the website on his phone, wanting it to mean something, and ordered what used to be Frank's favorite candy.

He waited there the whole night. When Bert had called he had explain with a bit of awkwardness but Bert had understood and told him to take his time. Gerard had. He spent the next few days there, only going home to change his clothes and shower.  The tabloids always took pictures of him going in the hospital and out of it. Wasting no time in posting them in magazines.

On the third day of waiting Gerard sat by the window as he looked down over the people walking out of the building for lunch, just trying to do something besides watch the television that only talked about Frank's "weakening" state, though he was actually getting better, and their supposed love affair. When Gerard heard a soft stirring he walked over to the bed and saw Frank's head lightly move to one side, then the other.

"Frank," Gerard hissed out, a quiet whisper.  He didn't want to wake him if he wasn't ready but he wondered if he was just imagining things. Frank softly hummed before he opened his eyes and blinked a few times. He groaned weakly in pain before it seemed to go away. "Good morning, sleeping beauty," Gerard smiled a little.

"Gerard?" Frank seemed confused before he looked around the room, like he was worried someone would be sitting in the other chair. "Gerard…where's Matt?"

"He's in jail," Gerard stated, not sugarcoating it. Frank seemed to sigh out in relief and relax more. "Frank," Gerard stated and got the smaller man to look up at him, "Tell me what happened."
