Description One of my favourite hobbies is hiking, especially up the hills in Angus or Fife or wherever I happen to be at the time. You get good exercise, some lovely views and I often find it quite fulfilling whenever I do get to the top.

This pic's setting is loosely inspired by the Lake District, but it could be up in the Cairngorms too for all I care since that is closer to home . They're both awesome places ^^.

Hiking with my cousin last fall and this past summer was a lot of fun. I would definitely do it more often if I had better feet! The tallest mountain on the Eastern US Coast (Mt. Mitchell) is in North Carolina, within a few hours' drive of my house. I should like to visit it someday

Needless to say I've learned a lot in my brief hiking endeavors. One thing I know for sure now is to properly hydrate yourself and keep a good amount of food down during the journey. I didn't do the best job of that last time around, and...Well, I ended up getting sick on the way back from the mountains and having to make a pit stop so I could empty my stomach! I've certainly learned my lesson

This is very beautiful; you captured the landscape wellΒ and the characters fit into itΒ so naturally.

Thanks I like doing mixed medium backgrounds!

Whoa... that looks so cool and scenic!

The background works well -- minimalistic but that seems to fit your style, and I like how the lines are softer/greyer in the more distant parts.

I used to do backgrounds like this more often ^^

Not so much. I tend to do mixed mediums or digital.

I know this effect has been done to death but I think you should add some Lens Flare.

RMXTrailMix In reply to adogpoobig [2014-04-02 05:53:22 +0000 UTC]

Lens Flares ruin drawings,Β they distract from the subject. Lense flares are often seen in poorly drawn art.

I had considered doing that, but then I wasn't sure if it would work with the compositon.

Camping isn't my thing either, hence I tend to make a daytrip of these things.

Cute, but the hills looks a little low for the Lake District - unless is somewhere on the fringe like Lake Ennerdale. But that's just nit picking. Awesome picture and brilliant artwork as always!

FreyFox In reply to Damien-Mildury [2012-04-13 01:12:02 +0000 UTC]

It is kind of just based on the Lake District really and no more Had I been trying to emulate it proper I'd have had me on the summit of Catbells, Skiddaw or Hellvellyn

Heh, sweet! Must be great to get away from it all...

Never been to the Lake District myself, but it would probably be quite a drive. Only thing I know is that they have eagles...

Cumbria is on the exact opposite side of England, so it would be a longer distance for you to cover than me! (I live in Northeast Scotland). You should go
