Fimabultyr - Odin, Of the Old Runes

Well here we are another Thor’s Day and another 20 min sketch of a Norse (and Germanic, sometimes Celtic) mythological characters. This week it’s a second version of Fimabulthur / FimabulÞur / Fimabultyr. A name for Odin mentioned in the Younger Edda.

Listed among Odins names. It’s translated as ‘’the great thule’ or ‘mighty holy court chieftan’. Generally associated with creation, might, wisedom and primordial winds. Who is present at the beginning of time as a spirit. Though this is likely a later Christian addition to the stories. Also meaning ‘of the frequent or old used runes’.

Sometimes though of as a separate god entirely. And the name may have originated as such, but essentially once written down it’s to indicate it as a name for Othinn, / Odin.
