Gunther Hardwicke was a marine biologist who created a deep sea suit for himself to explore the ocean. Out exploring one day, he saw a cruise liner being attacked by Ultrawoman and Barracuda. When he tried to help, he was thrown into the deepest part of the ocean. There, he was found by the Gamanae of Atlantis who used Atlantean magics to restore and empower Hardwicke. Gunther in turn, became her champion, The Silver Shark.
