I generally dislike generic wolf characters, but if people can make them work like this then it's okay.

Wow, that's awesome. you did that by hand?? I mess up so easily when i try to paint by hand, so I use digital watercolors to feel like I'm not wasting $50 worth of paint. I love the guardian (it really looks like an Aztec guardian) and the priestess's design (not human. ^___^). The quetzal's adorable... How do you put your name on it watermarked like that? The semi-invisible name would help, since my signature's so icky...

Why do you like the aztecs so much? I'm just curious, because I'm a huge fan of them as well. Seeing as how I come from their country. XD

I love the colors they use. Turquoises and golds and silvers and oranges and reds.
Haha. They're my type of colors.
Also the idea of a feathered snake is just extremely appealing to me. <3

Well one reason those colors were used a lot, I'm sure you know, is a relation back to the raw materials they had access too. They used gold (and it is why a lot of the killing happened) because they had ample amounts of the substance. Turquoise was used due to the fact, again, a raw material found. They use those blues, greens and whites because turquoise is not always that robin's egg blue we think of (Actually the company in New York, Tiffany, created the common word/color association) Turquoise comes in many shades ..even a few that are so heavily spidered they're nearly dark brown!
Also, the red and oranges found in their work are heavily inspired by the coral (again, they had a lot of access to it) they had around them.
Like many cultures, their lore and gods stemmed from misconcepted ideas, history, and views of the world - and the feathered snakes and the like are actually based on the queztal bird -- When flying, it's long tails (since it was so high up) gave the impression it was not a bird, but a flying feathered snake. That's how that lore got started

And then there are the other versions, about how quetzalcoatl is the um 'christ' of Mexico. Or so I heard in my Mexican History class. I thought thta was the most interesting theory of all, because there are some accounts made by the Aztecs where it says this one guy really did believe in one god. The only monotheist of the um, the 'empire?'. City? eh.
When I think of turquoise I tend to think of this color: [link]
