Sorry if people already said that, but while he is a giant, he's not actually a frost giant in the original myths.
Also, beside what jebbifurzz already wrote, he literally is wildfire, as the son of Farbauti (=cruel striker, meaning 'lightning') and Laufey (meaning something with wood, I forgot the literal translation).
His name is also really close to 'Logi', which means fire.
So him giving fire is not actually that far-fetched and grounded in various rituals and customs of that time. ^^
Nitpicking aside, great picture! The fire effects are breathtaking.
I especially love the text there, plus, it's kinda true. People liked Thor a lot as protector and all, but ultimately also feared him a lot.
Well, same for Loki, but still. ^^
And even if him and fire can be explained and makes sense, your reasoning that it's because he's hot can't be faulted either.
True facts. ^^

Oh my various gods! Someone else who has heard that song!
Lovely picture. I like the fire effect. I agree, it seems odd that a frost giant has fire in his repertoire of godly domains, but stranger things have happened.
Keep up the good work!
Blessed be

Yeah, the thing with Loki and fire is slightly confusing, but a connection definitely exists. Different peoples of different Nordic-settled nations and islands who had not been in contact since being settled by common ancestors were all found to have sayings, customs, and tributes devoted to the same house-spirit-type-god called Loki. (The fact that they had not been in contact at all shows that these practises are from their common ancestors in the distant past, and are not a modern invention, as that is the only way these people without connection to one another other than their common past could have held the same practises for the same god/spirit.) Loki was not the fire itself, but he was the one who helped the home to have a good roaring fire, and lots of his tributes (dairy skin, lost baby teeth, knotted thread) were thrown into the fire, and when they burned, that meant Loki had accepted them. If you ignored Loki, or did not respect him, he could make your fire cease to burn, or burn poorly, your food not cook, and he could sometimes mess up other parts of your house, like spoiling food or riling up your livestock. Items related to the fire were named after and/or associated closely with Loki, like bellows used to stoke the fire, and the cinders and ashes left behind. Basically, he was a house-spirit-type-thing, but his main realm of the house revolved around the fireplace, and if you had fire, the one to whom you owed your gratitude was Loki.

Fantastic work. VERY meaningful. Great use of red, yellow and green hue contrast techniques. Very compelling expression on Loki's face. You have invoked an aspect of the myths regarding Loki seldom visited. I especially appreciate that this piece reflects that Loki is a Frost Giant. Very like the Greek "Titans" as opposed to "Gods". Indeed, there is much overlap and similarity between the legends of Loki and those of Prometheus. The Egyptians, Chinese, Japanese and many other civilizations very often develop and maintain the tradition of including text and symbols on their graphic works. I think this can be a great enhancement to their ultimate historical value.

It has to do with the nowadays confusion between Logi, God of Fire. Wagner calls him Loge in his tetralogy. Then you have the Promethean myth of the Titan who gave fire to umanity ending up bound to a rock while a cruel eagle devours daily his liver (reminding us a a Norse God chained to a rock while a snake drips burning poison over his head everyday)
And this are proper canon myths whether Germanic or Greek
Then you have Stan Lee/Jack Kirby who must have smoked something quite potent ending up with Odin blood brother (thus probably after a battle fought and won by side) becoming an adopted son goth and emo to boot! And Sif becoming a long suffering BFF whilst Thor is smitten with a mortal (real Thor might have been smitten with Midgardians; he made no fuss, enjoyed while it lasted 50 years and less
so yes, Loki gave us fire... thanks to misread translations, analogies with different civilizations pantheons and drunk American cartoonists...

Chaos by definition is neither good or bad... just like mischief...how long is a piece of string...
My personal theory and now lets pretend we are serious acadamics
Timeline 52BC Rome has invaded Gaul, Gaul celts who worship Lugus a god who shares many Loki attributes
seeing Gaul as a buffer zone between Roman pantheon and Germanic pantheon... Gauls and Druids flee the Roman invasion , go to Britain not for long go to German forests
as not Romans welcome but as Gauls their own Gods are made inferior to the native Gods hence Lugus/Lug/Logi become a giant inferior to Woden but his bloodbrother and somehow Loki as modified over centuries as between 52 BC and Snorri more than 1000years to rewrite myths
You can even imagine a cultured exiled Gaul mentionning the Promethean myth to his Germanic colleague
we have read so many theories but never this one I think
by the way Tacitus said Mercury was their lead of gods and Lug is Mercury in the Gaul pantheon... My shot is that in exile Lug got split in two as in Logi and Loki. Logi divine fire, Loki not so divine mischief maker
Whaddya think of this
Told you, serious stuff

A lot of stuff surrounding Loki and fire has gotten mixed up and shuffled around, but a connection definitely does exist. And I mean a connection to Loki, not Logi or Lug or Utgardaloki - I mean Loki Loki. I'm not really getting into details in this comment, but let me know if you want them. I just wanna write a short, horribly informal explanation.
Different peoples of different Nordic-settled nations and islands who had not been in contact since being settled by common ancestors were all found to have sayings, customs, and tributes devoted to the same house-spirit-type-god called Loki. (The fact that they had not been in contact at all shows that these practises are from their common ancestors in the distant past, and are not a modern invention, as that is the only way these people without connection to one another other than their common past could have come to hold the same practises for the same god/spirit.)
Since this Loki came before any of these places got settled, he might have been a predecessor to the Loki we know from Snorri. In fact, you can see certain motifs and elements of house-spirit-thing Loki in the stories of Snorri Loki, and also fairy tale Loki (but I won't get into them).
Our house-spirit-thing Loki was not the fire itself or the god of fire, but he was the one who helped the home to have a good roaring fire, and lots of his tributes (dairy skin, lost baby teeth, knotted thread) were thrown into the fire, and when they burned, that meant Loki had accepted them. If you ignored Loki, or did not respect him, he could make your fire cease to burn, or burn poorly, your food not cook, and he could sometimes mess up other parts of your house, like spoiling stored food or riling up your livestock.
Items related to the fire were named after and/or associated closely with Loki, like bellows used to stoke the fire, fireplace pokers, and the cinders and ashes left behind. Basically, he was a house-spirit-type-thing, but his main realm of the house revolved around the fireplace, and if you had fire, the one to whom you owed your gratitude was Loki.

actually one of the first interpretations of Loki is that he was a Harth God or God of the Harth Fire or something like that. Vikings didn't really have any evil gods, that came afterwards with the introduction of Catholicism (or however it's written). Great art, btw

Methologically Loki was the god of Fire because he was their version of Prometheus. Even his final punishment harkens to the same. Chained to a rock for eternal torment. I recently read a Loki novel titled "I Bring the Fire"
That's what drew me to this piece. Very nicely done.

And I love how the light of the fire reflects on his skin and in his eyes ! Truly magnificent job !!
