Here are 10 animated characters/creatures/moments that struck fear in my heart when I was a kid...

10. The Spider Monster that Peter turns into (Spider-Man (1994 animated series))

09. Grim's Mandy nightmare (Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy: Dream Me a Little Dream)

08. Lampwick's donkey transformation (Pinocchio)

07. Charlie's nightmare about going to Hell (All Dogs Go to Heaven)

06. Mr. Hyde (The Pagemaster): I don't care if this movie was rushed! The Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde scene was the scariest part of it!

05. That brief moment from the Ren and Stimpy episode: Hermit Ren, when Ren sees his own face in the Mummy...

04. The evil giant baby (Rugrats: Angelica's Worst Nightmare)

03. The Killer (Tiny Toon Adventures: How I Spent My Summer Vacation)

02. The Cootie Nightmare Scene (Powerpuff Girls: Cootie Gras)

01. Madame Hecuba (Jack and the Beanstalk (1974 Anime)): Not many people know about this movie. This is a rather dark version of the Jack and the Beanstalk story. The scariest part about was that witch: Madame Hecuba. She's my cartoon boogeyman. Even now I get the creeps when I think of her...

Jack and the Beanstalk 1974 won't be very obscure for long thanks to Nostalgia Critic.

Lampwick's transformation STILL freaks me out.Β  The last thing he does before it's too late is scream for his mama...it chills me to my bones.

I remember that episode of the Powerpuff girls was creepy and terrifying,The Evil giant baby from that episode of Rugarts was way terrifying.

I love The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy and I was never scared of anything from the show as a little girl not even Grim's Mandy nightmare.

Yeah, one of the few times most fans felt sorry for Angelica and it was "all just a dream" and that In the Dreamtime scene of Creepy Clown! Tommy/Stu was "a dream within a dream". Face it, Rugrats - despite being about talking babies - had all kinds of Nightmare Fuel, since the whole idea of leaving babies un-supervised is a parental nightmare in and of itself.

Of course, most shows with kid characters have an episode about how the parents or older siblings feel about leaving the young'ns alone (ex: the most recent episode of MLP: FiM, where Applejack was overprotective over leaving little sister Applebloom at Sweet Apple Acres by herself [though technically, with Applebloom'sΒ fellow Cutie Mark Crusaders, Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo[) , yet Rugrats did on a regular basis.
