Description It occurred to me that the only view I have shown is the tight portrait shot of the Sears Tower so I decided to take a wide angle landscape so you can see what I see every time I'm on the patio on the roof of my dorm.

The structure with what looks like a whale with a gaping mouth is our student center. The tube is there to cut down on the noise produced by the passing L train. For those interested, it was designed by Rem Koolhaas. The rest of the campus was designed by Mies van der Rohe, and that is exactly why it isn't in any pictures I take.

Pretty cool structure, great capture.
That could make for some interesting pieces.

Well, some of it is ok, but this campus is SO ugly. Every building except the student center (Rem Koolhaas) and my dorm (Helmut Jahn) is a box with brown bricks, black steel, and glass. It's just the size of the box that changes. All of the architecture professors here have their heads up Mies's ass too. He's like god to them. It's sickening.

The student center is pretty cool, but I really love the dorm by Jahn! That is a great stretch of architecture there. I've got some good images from down there that I should upload sometime! Nice shot... wish I lived in there! How is the interior?

Well, the interior is very "modern", which translates to "ugly." The ceilings and floors are bare concrete and the walls are a mix of white drywall and bare concrete as well. Everything is grey or white with the exception of the yellow glow from the overhead lights in the halls. I shouldn't complain, though, because I live in a corner room on the third floor (the widest point of the building). The room is roughly 12x24 and has 7 windows--one entire wall is windows. It's so nice having an elevator on move-in and move-out days, and having to share a bathroom with only your neighbors instead of the entire floor is fantastic. Floors 2,3,4 each have their own kitchens and laundry rooms, and the laundry machines are connected to the internet so we can check their status without leaving our room (Check it out ). The 5th floor has the patios and a lounge with a 50" plasma TV and surround sound. All drabness aside, it beats the hell out of the old dorms.

Are you a student at IIT or just one of those guys with a camera who I frequently see traversing the campus, admiring the architecture? I'd love to see some of your shots of it.

Wow, I love the way schools are making the kids lazier and lazier with their high-tech, everything is connected to the internet so you don't even have to leave your dorm room--ever, dorms. Or no, you probably spend all that time you saved walking to the laundry room by studying, right?

Anyway, don't mind my rants.. it seems like a cool building, although I can picture the bland interiors. I'll post a few of my ITT campus images on my page sometime this week if you care to see them. And no, not a student there, just one of those guys with a camera.
