Jasper being multi-faceted is part of what makes her the "ultimate quartz". It's mentioned at some point in the show by Peridot (I think)

The only reason the flawed gems in the zoo where kept was for sentimental reasons. You have seen how the zoo supervisor treats the Earth gems.
