Description
Most days, Imogen was not a fan of the beach. It was always hot, loud, sandy, and just an overall annoying experience. She would much rather go to an aquarium, or even a pool, if it meant staying away from the beach. However, today she found herself standing in the sand, surrounded by her four pokemon, with a look of determination burning in her eyes. In her backpack, securely wrapped up, were two mysterious orbs that she had discovered during her adventures. One of them had been found in the middle of the forest, and it swirled with the colors of soil. The other had been grabbed inside of a cave filled with strips of lava, and blazed like fire. Logically, Imogen believed that there had to be more of these orbs out there, and the next element she felt like discovering was water. She had asked herself where one would find a mysterious orb of water? Probably in the depths of the ocean. So, with a bit of convincing, she had managed to bring her pokemon out to a special scuba shop where they would be able to take her on a boat out to the middle of the ocean and let her explore down in it's depths. She could only afford to pay for two hours, and hoped that in that time they would be able to find the orb. Sitting on the cushions of the boat, she waited until it came to a slow, steady stop among the gentle flow of water.
Looking down, she saw the concern across the faces of her pokemon, and she knelt down to be closer to them. Buttons, her Mareep, let out an "eep.." in unhappiness, knowing that she wouldn't be able to explore the underwater depths freely besides her trainer. Ember, her new Vulpix, shared the same unhappiness, though mostly because of her dislike for the water. Imogen had decided that Ember would stay behind on the sand and watch over her bag while they were gone, which the small, fox-like pokemon didn't seem to mind. "Be a good protector, now!"
Imogen was going to bring along her Mareep and Munna, but they would have to stay in their pokeballs considering she didn't think there would be any way for them to swim easily. Both the pokemon had an impressive amount of power, so Imogen felt safer having them nearby, even if they were just in their pokeballs. Only one of her pokemon would be freely beside her during this, which was her newest addition to the team, a small Surskit she had nicknamed Tickles. The tiny blue pokemon glided along the top of the ocean water in excitement, ready to go on this journey and find the orb Imogen had been telling it all about. "Alright, it's about time we get going now. Get into your pokeballs girls." As she spoke, she held out the two normal pokeballs and watched as Opal and Buttons went inside, then securing the balls in a waterproof compartment of her diving suit. "Ember, I'm trusting you to watch over this bag. You're a brave girl, I know you can do it!" The Vulpix yipped in response, standing over the bag protectively.
"Okay, lets do this."
Sitting up against the edge of the boat, Imogen fell backwards into the water, watching as Tickles glided over the water above her before creating a small bubble to circle it's face as it swam down under the water and latched onto her shoulder. As they swam near the reef that Imogen had picked out to explore, she stared in awe at all the fascinating colors and water type pokemon swimming around them. Feebas, Goldeen, and Staryu were just a couple that had caught her eye, though she didn't attempt to catch any considering her focus was solely on obtaining an orb today. As she swam, Tickles pointed towards the left towards a dark, underwater cave surrounded by lumps of coral. It seemed that none of the pokemon in the area wanted to be near the cave, and made a strong attempt at avoiding having to go near it. "There must be something in there that they don't like." Imogen thought to herself, slowly advancing towards the dark opening. As she did so, Tickles positioned itself so that Imogen felt like she had a backpack on, no doubt because the pokemon felt tense at entering the cave. It seemed to get darker and colder all around them, and Imogen made sure that she was swimming straight at all times so not to get lost inside. Eventually, there was a slight warmth in the water, and Imogen swore she could see a light up ahead. Quickening her pace, the light was a gentle, soft blue that eventually got stronger each moment she grew closer to it. Halting to a stop, Imogen floated in the water, staring at the blue orb that was gently resting in the sand at the bottom of the cave. "Skit!!" Her Surskit yelled in response, hopping off of her back and going towards the orb. Gently, it picked up the orb with it's arms and was about to make it's way back to Imogen when something large swam out in front of it. The thing was definitely a Pokemon, and slowly more of them came out of the shadows, their long legs reaching out to connect with one another. After a few moments, Imogen realized that she was staring at a group of Tentacruel that must have been guarding the orb. "Tickles! Use Agility!" Imogen called out, hoping that the tiny Pokemon would be able to hear her. Fortunately it did, and with the orb in its hands, it swiftly darted under the Tentacruel and towards Imogen, who was already turning around and swimming as fast as she could out towards the entrance of the cave. The group of guardian pokemon let out a screech in anger, and she didn't dare look behind her back for fear of seeing all of them coming after her. Imogen wasn't even sure of how many there were, but knew that Tickles and herself were definitely outnumbered. Once the Surskit caught up to her, it placed the water orb in her hand and then latched onto her back, holding on tight as Imogen swam.
Imogen had never been a very good swimmer, and she was realizing that these Tentacruels were going to get her one way or another. Frantically, she went through her brain and tried to figure out what could be done to stop them from getting at her. They were all water types, including Surskit, so a battle wouldn't end the way she needed it. If only she had something stronger, that would stop them.
Suddenly, it all clicked, and Imogen slowed to a stop, turning around to face the oncoming stampede of Tentacruels. Reaching into her waterproof compartment, she took out two pokeballs and threw them through the water. Popping open, a very shocked Mareep and Munna came out. "Opal, use Psychic! Buttons, use Thunderbolt!" As if reading her mind, the small Munna used the move to also surround itself, Imogen, and Surskit in protect psychic shields from what Buttons was about to do. The Mareep let out a bubbly "eeep!" As she let out a thunderbolt, electrocuting the water and all the pokemon around them in it. The Tentracruel were paralyzed from the attack, and afterwards Opal released her trainer from the psychic barrier, allowing her to swim freely again. "Okay, quickly, lets get back into your pokeballs!" She yelled, letting the two pokemon go back into safety. Gently, she put the balls back into the compartment of her suit, including the water orb, which she stared at in awe. "Tickles, you're the absolute best! You were so fast at getting that orb from them, I'm very proud of your first adventure with us. You're a wonderful addition to the team. Now we just have to hurry up and swim up to the surface before the Tentacruel recover from that thunderbolt or I don't see this ending well." She said, staring at the mass of unmoving Tentacruels for a few moments before swimming up out of the underwater cave.
Once they were out, she stared in wonder at the coral reef around them again, taking a few moments to admire the beauty of the pokemon swimming in and out of the anemones. A wave of relief went through her as she realized that Buttons' thunderbolt didn't reach all of them out here, and that the rest of the pokemon were safe from the attack. She hoped that when the Tentacruels recovered that they wouldn't come after all the other pokemon down here, but she wasn't able to stay around and make sure of it. Slowly, Imogen swam through the coral, looking up every so often to see if she could identify the shadowy silhouette of the boat she had taken out to these mysterious waters.
