Thank you! I spend a lot of time on the character and shading, I kind of like shading and the depth it can really give to a piece but unfortunately I lose all patience by the time I get to the background, hah XD

Welcome! Well it pays off! Shading is amazing, I need to go more in depth into that. YES same here. I would say just after you finish the character go back to it, but I wouldn't take that advice. Maybe do the background first? Thats never worked for me... but maybe if I do it more. Thats all I can say on that.

Yeah, I've tried doing the background first sometimes but I get really disheartened and switching back to the character is more fun haha XD But I'll try experimenting more on pieces where the background is the main focus and the character is more minimal.. it'll be good practice, I think ^^
