*Le Flashback*

I had moved to New Jersey from (country or state (if you’re from the US)). I was here on scholarship for school and was working on my cryptozoology degree, the study of unknown animals. I loved learning about animals that where unknown or known as myths until proven true. Like the wendigo, the mothman, the thunderbird, and Bigfoot (or skunk ape if your down south). But my favorite by far was the Jersey Devil. The Jersey Devil was the most intriguing by far. The myth says that when a woman, who was said to be a witch, gave birth to her thirteenth child, it turned into a devil. That it had long sharp claws, a spaded tail, ram horns, and bat wings. And you could only imagine my surprise that the same forest that it was supposed to live in was right next to my home. I ever the curious one was always researching and trying to find out more about the Devil. But the Devil wasn’t the only thing I was curious about.

More or less it was my ever mysterious and long term boyfriend Alfred. He had sandy blond hair, the bluest eyes I’d ever seen framed by a pair of glasses, and that’s where the weird stuff comes in. He never seemed to be out during the night, and when he was he was always so dense and highly irritable especially when the moon is out. He always seemed to pop out of nowhere too. Not to mention he was REALLY FREAKIN STRONG!!! He picked up his British half-brother’s car like it was a COUCH! He always seemed to wear gloves too. I still loved him though. More than I had ever about anyone ever before. To me he was just really eccentric.

Finally, I was going to do it. I was going to go out and see if I can see the Jersey Devil. I brought Alfred along too. Hey if this thing fought back, I was sure not going after it alone. He was actually not as irritable as he usually was at night. I shivered at the autumn cold. I felt something being put on my back and realized it was Alfred’s beloved bomber jacket, with the number fifty on the back.

“Here, take my jacket.”

“Thanks, Alfred.” I said slipping my arms through the sleeves in the jacket.

He stuck his hand in his pocket and took my hand with his other, with a smile. As we continued to get deeper and deeper into the woods, we didn’t talk much. Suddenly we stopped in a large open clearing.

“(Y/n)… I have to ask you something.”

“Yes, Alfred? *gasp*” I turned to look at him and saw him put a ring on my ring finger. It was a diamond in the shape of a star, on a silver band with decorative scrawl all over it.

“Will you marry me?”

“YES! YES! YES! AND HELL YES!”

I hugged him and he hugged back. Nothing could ruin this…Well…Almost nothing.

“ALFRED!!” We both winced. It was Arthur, Alfred’s cock blocking, British half-brother. And by the sounds of it he was right behind us. We turned to look at him. I gasped. This was not Alfred’s brother. This man looked like Arthur, but he had blood red hair, his green eyes were like cats, and most importantly he had devil horns, an arrow pointed tail, and dragon wings. And he looked pissed. I stood there shell shocked. Could Arthur be-?

The full moon came out from behind the clouds, and Alfred screamed and doubled over. I kneeled down next to him. Something was definitely wrong. His face was twisted in pain, and in between screams he said, “No… Not…Now…(Y/n)…R-run…NOW!”

“What!?! ALFRED AS YOUR GIRLFRIEND I AM NOT LEAVEING YOU!”

“This is not up for debate! Go now!” he screamed as he turned to face me.

That last word sounded demonic, and when I saw his eyes, they were filled with tears and they were GLOWING! LIKE FRICKING GLOW STICKS MAN!

“OK! Got it! I LOVE YOU ALFRED!” And with that I made a bee line for home.

*End of Le Flashback*

My eyes began to fill with tears. Damn it! Alfred! He was in so much pain when I left. I hate leaving him behind. I tripped and fell to my knees. I stood there on all fours, crying my eyes out. I hope Alfred was alright! All of the sudden I heard a crash behind me. I whirled around to see my friendly neighborhood, demonic ginger Arthur, with some guy I had never seen before, lying in a pile of leaves.

GREAT! CRAZY BROGHT A FRIEND WITH HIM!

I scrambled to my feet and sprinted to my house. I quickly unlocked the door and threw it open. I ran inside, slammed the door shut, and locked it again. I leaned against the door, sobbing. Why the hell does this have to happen to me? I went to the gun case and got out my loaded Colt Winchester revolver. My dad gave it to me when I went away as a way to defend myself. And something told me, I was going to need it. I went upstairs and turned on my lamp and hugged my pillow crying, setting the gun beside me on the bed. I prayed that Alfred was alright. Please! God Please! Let him be alright.

*Meanwhile back in the forest*

“GOD DAMN IT, JACK! I *BLEEP*ING TOLD YOU NOT TO INTERFERE!” Alfred barked, trying not to grind his teeth (with his fangs he’d probably slash his mouth all to hell) as he continued hold, his associate, Spring Heeled Jack (British urban legend check the description for details) against the tree. He had finally found his mate after searching for over 200 years and Jack just had to screw it up!

“Jersey! You know very well I’ve had my eye on her too! And besides I think she’d make a fantastic meal instead of a mate! Don’t you think so?”

(Y/n)? This bozo’s entrée? OH HELL NO!

“ONE MY NAME IS ALFRED! IT HAS BEEN SINCE THE DAY I WAS BORN! AND TWO I ALREADY CLAIMED HER!”

“We’ll see about that!”

Jack threw Alfred off of him and took off.

Arrogant, self-entitled, bastard! Alfred knew if he didn’t get to (y/n), Jack was going to have his way with her and then kill her! He scrambled to his feet. Jack had planned this thoroughly. He made sure Alfred had his guard down enough to the point of where he would turn into the Jersey Devil. Hell Jack was the one who found him and taught him how to disguise himself as a human in the first place! He was normal during the day except for the fact he had to wear gloves constantly to prevent anyone from noticing his claws, but the night brought out the devil in him. It made his hair go black, his ram like horns, spaded tail, and black bat like wings to appear. And his usual beige suit and tie turned black as well. Over time he had been able to get better at it, but he was still young and not as experienced as Jack! Alfred spread his wings and took off after him.

Alfred hoped (y/n) was alright. She was the world to him. He’d never forgive himself if she died.

*BACK TO THE FUTURE! Kidding! BACK TO YOU!*

I sat there on my bed I noticed the room got colder and colder. I let go of the pillow grabbed the colt. Something was in here with me. Suddenly out from the shadows, out popped Psycho! Great, now I know how Ivan feels when he’s being chased by his sister. I was paralyzed with fear, but soon that fear gave way to anger. I had no bloody idea what he was doing here, but he was the one that caused all this to happen. HE was the catalyst.

“What do you want, Arthur?” I said through clenched teeth, pointing the gun at him.

He chuckled.

“First of all, my real name is Jack, Spring Heeled Jack. Second of all, put the toy down girly! I really don’t want to play rough. Now come with me.”

“Well to damn bad! I am not going anywhere with you, without a fight, you caterpillar-browed, limey bastard! ((A/N: BURN!))”

He glared at me. I gulped.

Seems I struck a nerve there. ((A/N: You don’t say?))

In a flash, he grabbed my wrist making me release the gun from my death grip.

“Sorry, poppet! You’re coming with me whether you like it or not!” He said with a smirk. Again I gulped. I did not like that look on his face.

He picked me up and threw me over his shoulder and carried me to my balcony attached to my room. I started to struggle. HE WAS NOT GOING TO TAKE ME ANYWHERE! He made it to the balcony and spread his wings.

“LET GO OF ME YOU CREEP! HELP!”

He took off flying.

He was flying fast and was now over the forest. I kept struggling. I had to get away, but resistance was proving futile. Suddenly a red ball of fire hit ‘Jack’ square in the center of his back. ((A/N: HEY THAT RHYEMED!)) The dude grunted and let me go, falling to the ground. Yes! OH WAIT…FUCK! I was now plummeting towards the ground. I screamed and braced for impact. I felt a pair of strong arms wrap around me, bridal style. And suddenly I was going up. I was shocked. PLEASE DON’T TEL ME I’M GOING TO END UP IN WONDERLAND NOW!!!

Before I fainted out of shock and fear I looked up at my savior. Alfred! My hero had saved me, from death. I smiled. “Nice catch, Al.”

*TIME SKIP*

I woke up in something soft and warm. An arm was wrapped around my waist. I snuggled in closer the man beside me. Then it hit me. WHAT THE HELL!?!?! WHAT GUY!?!?! I shot upright.

“ALFRED!?!” It was Alfred alright. No doubt about it. Only he had black hair and was dressed in all black. And…where those horns!?! He grumbled something and said groggily: “It’s too early. Go back to sleep.” And he pulled me back down to him. He held me closer and snuggled his face into my hair. Normally I would be rendered speechless, and be blushing like mad. Well I was blushing like mad. But I still needed answers

“Alfred, what happened last night?”

Alfred sighed and made me look at him. He looked so conflicted.

“(Y/n)…I-I-I’m…the Jersey Devil.” He winced, tears forming in his eyes, like he expected me to scream at him as if he was in trouble. I just sat there shocked. It suddenly all came 360. It explained so much about him that I had never been able to figure out about him. His strength. His speed. His over protectiveness. It finally fell into place. Then I noticed something: Alfred looked like he was about to cry, which kind of scared me. I had never seen him cry; sure he had seen ME cry, but to see him cry, never. I wrapped him in a hug. He stiffened. He soon relaxed and hugged me back, and began to sob into my shoulder.

“It’s ok. Everything is going to be alright.” I patted his back, trying to comfort him as best as I could.

“Y-you’re not afraid? Even though I’m a monster?”

I pulled away from him and looked him straight in the eye.

“To answer your first question. Alfred I love you and I wouldn’t abandon you just because you are a demon. I mean who does that? Second of all, are you Hitler or participate in the Holocaust?”

“No.”

“Are you any sort of mass murderer?”

“No.”

“Are you Saddam Hussein?”

“No.”

“Are you Barney the Big Purple Dinosaur?”

He chuckled. “Definitely not.”

I smiled. “Then you aren’t a monster. I know your story. You where the thirteenth kid of your family. Your mom was supposedly a witch, and, according to legend, your father was the Devil. When you were born you were fine, but shortly after you were born, you became a demon and escaped. In no part of that story is there any mention of death or destruction. And even if there was, you where an INFANT! How the hell were you supposed to control yourself as an INFANT!?! You didn’t know any better. If anything you are the one and the same and nothing is going to change that!”

How could he say such things about himself? I mean yeah he was technically a demon. But that didn’t mean I did not love him. I fell in love with the man he is not because that he was human. I could care less, if he was an octopus.

“R-Really?”

“Yes, really. Alfred, I love you with all my heart.”

He smiled and held me tighter. “Thank you.”

*Epilogue*
Soon after that, Alfred and I got married. No way in hell were we going to risk the chance of Jack coming and take me away from him. That next fall we had six little devil children to care for, and I couldn’t have been happier. To this day I’ve written books on all the creatures I’ve met including Alfred’s revelation of him being the Jersey devil. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
