Monsters ? I thought the same long ago, when I was young and didn't know there are thousands of amputee admirers. As far as we don't look around us in order to find a beautiful amputee girl and harass her, I think we can be considered as psychologically ill, but harmless. And making art about amputee women may be a good ersatz to bad behaviour.

I think the word 'admirer' is not really appropriate in this context. For me this is just another euphemism that is used to disguise an unambiguously sexual attraction. I would be glad if we could talk about 'amputee lovers' instead. But unfortunately there seems to be not much love in the cyber-world either.

You might have noticed that all of my drawings are inspired by pictures that can be found at various websites that have specialized on 'admirer-supply'. Most of the zillions of photos there are anonymously posted and obviously lacking any slightest sign of admiration. Like anywhere else anonymity has proven to be a very reliant way to reveal real characters and motivations of the people at the keyboards at home. Rudeness, disrespect and a profound absence of empathy with the objects of desire is what I have found almost everywhere.

Not the fact that there are people who happen to be fascinated or attracted by people who happen to be amputees is 'psychologically ill'. It is the way how they are reduced to things that can be collected, traded, bought or sold. I do not think that this behavior is harmless.

That was my thought when I wrote of monsters.

Did you ever hear of 'porn'? I don't want to call your art pornography, but the zillions of photos you speak of surely are just that. And the phenomenon of pornography exists outside of "amputee lover" or devotee circles as well - I can assure you of this.

Putting such a label on the pictures does not change anything. Perhaps it could make the recipient feel better to think it's just porn and help to reduce unpleasantly guilt-tripped side effects.

But the main problem persists: You are looking at real people with very real experiences while you are enjoying what you see.
