7/27/10 - Yes, the eyes are different shades. Why? If you know Yuna, you'll know one of the eyes is blue and the other is green.

This is Yuna from Final Fantasy X [and X-2, if you want to get technical]
this is also a pic i found on a final fantasy artistic portraits website... so its just a copy of what i saw... not my own thing
she's so beautiful, right?
for real, this took me years to do. I had attempted it in i think 2002, and my gosh, it turned out so bad, i put the website away in a file and told myself I'll get better before I even THINK about trying again. And then 2 years later, I tried, and voila!
I'm very proud of this. It's the best thing I've ever done.

This drawing is amazing.
The shading of the hair is simply amazing and the general proportions are just right.
The eyebrows caught my attention - their shape is very very good.
I started self-teaching myself to draw on the last two weeks, and this work is very very inspirational. The "simple" shading in your work showed me something about how I try to much about making smooth shades everywhere - your work shows that drawing can be amazing even with simpler shading than my over-complicated ones.
The eyes and mouth are shapes which I'm always having trouble with, and I like a lot what I saw in your work (especially the left eye!

Well, for one, congratulations on teaching yourself to draw. That's how I did it too.
But I am glad this drawing holds so much inspiration for you. As I've written, I tried doing this before, but failed, so I waited 2 years before actually drawing it again. I still take issue with this drawing slightly. Little things that annoy me that I couldn't get just a tad better.
Don't get me wrong, I am very proud of this picture... beyond words. But, as I'm sure you can imagine, I'm quite strict on myself on the level of perfection I want. It's helping me, doing drawings from other images, to slowly build my own style and grow confident in drawing on my own.
But anyway, thank you so much for the comment on this. The only advice I can give you is to just keep practicing. And even when something comes out looking, well, not really good, keep it anyway. You can use it to figure out what it is you need work on, and it will help you to know what NOT to do, if that makes sense. I have ones like that in my physical portfolio, to show how I've progressed.
