My final project for Art IV class. Started it about a week ago and finally just got done blocking in colors on Muddy (my Chihuahua) and I finished the hand and the back ground.
Still have to add fur to Mud x__x

All of my other digital Art IV projects had some ugly background drawn from life. I wanted this one to be peaceful and quiet looking. Thank the Lord for the gradient tool and the burn tool!

I decided to call this project "Getting Closer" because of the somewhat poor relationship this dog and I have shared. When Muddy was just a pup, the vets we went to would literally man-handle him. I'm not kidding. One vet literally said that sometimes man-handling is the only way to get a Chihuahua to behave. Assholes. So Muddy developed a fear of hands coming down toward him to pet him and pick him up. He jumps up and tries to bite hands. Poor guy. Anyway, I've been spending a little more time with him, trying to let him know that we as his family would never hurt him. He's been letting me pet him a little more. He even let me snuggle with him in my bed last night when I was watching a movie. He's been letting me get closer to his face so I can give him kisses <3 But he still won't let me pick him up unless he's already in my lap. Hopefully he'll warm up to me a little more. It will take some time, and I'm not trying to rush him, but he will hopefully learn to understand that I will not ever hurt him.

Also, he was the only one of my dogs that had never been in one of my Art IV projects (not just my digital ones), so I had to make him the star of this one.

All art done on Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0 on a Wacom Intuos.3 4x6 tablet. Original size is 1000x1000 px.
