No not every soldier had an own camera. He buyed his own. He Starts 1940 in belgium, then france, and then till end of the war on the eastern front.
He was an high decorated infantry Feldwebel.

he was on the eastern front since the beginning of the invasion of russia in 1941.
On May 1. 1945 he become prisoner of war south of Berlin in the Halbe Pocket - in December 1951 he was released from russian pow camps.

so, he is the lucky one. he didnt taste gulag camp.
