do the red cast on a duplicate layer (Layer -> Duplicate Layer) them make all adjustments on the duplicate layer. Then in the layers pallate click the button that looks like a black circle with a white background (or white on black i cant remember ) Then paint in black the areas you DON'T want to be red (probably better to paint bucket in black and paint white over the areas you want to be white) then you should (?) have masked it

that wudnt surprise me, its all about telling the camera what to record as white.
