I think the key is to look at the style and anatomy rather than the colour and lighting. The newer one's better for it since she looks like she actually has internal organs now (lol) but each to their own.

The older one is actually more complex and the newer one is a simpler style. Its like you made sacrifices in quality for another style that looks more anime overall and less realistic. I like the left one better too. It might be harder and more time consuming to draw then your newer style but honestly its light years better. What you make up for in anatomy you lose nearly all in realistic-ness and detail quality. I don't think its worth the sacrifice. You can prob crank out more art now then you did years ago.

Yeah, the anatomy is better. But I also find that the expression on the old one is a lot more intense, though it could be because the new one isn't as detailed. It would certainly be interesting to see a comparison in which both images were done to the max of your abilities.
