Description Sketched this up today as I was suddenly hit with inspiration, the source of which came from one of *lastscionz 's recent submissions, and the Foo Fighters track Home.
Now, I say this is a sketch as for all intents and purposes it is, though as you can see, I got a little carried away with it. I'm glad I did too, this was fun to do

While drawing this I had an idea of the scenario that would lead up to it, and after I finished I wrote up a short story to go with it. Please excuse me if it's not great, I'm no writer and I've had no-one proof read it.

Makes me think of the end credits of "Cowboy Bebop", very mood setting and I like the look.

Oh and that poster in the background? Where's the fox/wolf lady from?

Your stuff is amazing. This is my favorite all time drawing!!
It has alot of meaning.
I wish you would make an animation of white shadow and tabby!! Actually, Drawing Tabby a little more wouldn't hurt.
But, Great stuff. Love it.

Thank you very much
I really should draw Tabby more; I never really draw her enough and that's a shame. I'd never thought of animating her and Felicia though, so that sounds like a good idea.

WOOT! For self promotion. Like we wouldn't see the pics in the BG. XD I'm loving the effects of the rain here man. And the action on the pic itself is great. ( drew someone smoking... BAD FUNKY!! XD) Great stuff man. How DID you get the rain in there?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

funkyalien In reply to Lamontraccoon [2008-03-29 15:20:19 +0000 UTC]

Haha! Yeah, I thought I'd put them in the background there. I needed something to use as posters

As for the rain effect, here comes the copy/pasta:
Well, the rain was done by filling a layer with black and setting it to screen. Then I ran the Mezzotint filter (Filter>Render>Mezzotint) and set it to Coarse Dots. Then I used the motion blur, adjusted the levels, and duplicated and resized it. This leaves two layes of rain, one for the background behind the characters, and one in the foreground over everything else.

What an incredible picture.
I'm really digging the greyscale use here not to mention the feeling it's giving me. Unforunately it's not letting me see the link to the story (ugh lol) so I couldn't read it. I've seen your work before and I'm very impressed. I should pull a stalker watch on you.

I must say FA, this picture is really moving.

It's as if the world surrounding them is somewhat shutting them out and there's no-one willing to help them. (corrdct me if i'm wrong)

And i'm really stunned by the rain effect , gorgeous work as always sir :>

funkyalien In reply to AN1ME [2008-03-12 22:31:53 +0000 UTC]

Thanks very much

I'd never really thought of it as the world shutting them out, but I guess that could also work as a sort of social commentary in the story as well.
It's actually more to do with Felicia having to swallow her pride and carry Tabby home as she's twisted her ankle and can't walk, so it's going into their relationship to each other more.
Glad yo liked it

It seems like my website was playing up again (as that's where the story is hosted). It should be fine now, though I may have to find another place to upload it.
Anyway, I'm glad you like the pic. I want to try more with trying to capture the character's emotions in an image

Am I the only one to notice the slightly out of place fox girl stripping in the background? Does she not know it's raining? Or is it supposed to be a poster? I can't really tell.

The rain looks good though. Did you do it with noise/blur/transparency?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

funkyalien In reply to June-bug [2008-03-11 20:02:46 +0000 UTC]

No offence Jo, but do you honestly think that in an image that's supposed to have a somewhat serious theme I'd include a fox girl stripping in the rain in a window's reflection? It's a poster on a wall, in this case probably advertising some sort of racing event or tv show. The pic/poster itself isn't finished, thus the lack of any text surrounding it, though if I were to make this a fully coloured image I'd go into such details. Basically, the image is stock. It may seem out of place, but it's only a poster (and a temporary one at that).

Anyway, the rain was done by filling a layer with black and setting it to screen.

June-bug In reply to funkyalien [2008-03-11 20:20:53 +0000 UTC]

Wow, chill out. I'm pretty sure you get enough positive reactions to all your work to not be fazed by me (of all people) being uncertain about a detail in your picture. If my tone rattled your cage I'm sorry but that was just the first thing I noticed. I thought it might be a poster, hence I said, but I was just saying it was unclear and my eye was drawn to it because of the detail compared to the starkness of the characters in the foreground.

Well that's basically what I said, and there's no need to treat me like a retard, I know where things are in photoshop. I was just saying good work with it in a way slightly more intelligent then 'wow amazin it's so c00l lolz!11!' If you'd rather I kept my thoughts to myself I will, you're obviously far above taking comments off me.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

funkyalien In reply to June-bug [2008-03-11 22:02:09 +0000 UTC]

Whoa hold up, sorry if my tone came off as sounding too offended. It just seemed a little like I was being accused of something I wasn't doing so I had to set the record straight. Sorry if I was too harsh there, you know I think of you as someone to give me great critique and I certainly don't think of you as a retard.
I guess I misread your intentions as you misreading mine. I'm not usually defencive about my art so my apologies again.

Okay, so I'll start again.
As is apparent now, it's just a poster. Probably should've left that one there, but now you know. As for the rain effect, I was just explaining exactly how I did the effect. To be totally honest it was a copy/paste from an earlier comment, though I probably shouldn't have done that since I was going into walkthrough-level detail. Still, I like to be very clear about when I explain things so there's little confusion later. Heh, at least you know now, right?

Anyways, sorry again for the outburst. I actually do appresiate your input on any of my art, particularly the heavier critique as it helps me notice things I may not have before. I suppose I had wondered if you were going to comment on this one, and with you pointing out the poster first in that way led to me to think I was being accused. So again, sorry about my tone, and I'm never above taking comments from anybody. Even I make mistakes. Truce?

This is quite touching. Knowing what Felicia's like, the fact that she's giving Tabby a piggy-back (kitty-back? ) is quite sweet. That, and I watched The Pursuit of Happyness before I first saw this So I was all cheesed-up at the time.

I like the rain effect, too. Really atmospheric I'll go and read that story in a sec.
