Description Skene Manor in Whitehall, NY. I've tried for a while to get a decent shot and now I know where to stand when I do (psst, Riverside Park). I'll have to try another shot when the leaves are out. For now it looks a bit barren in the background, still I'm pleased, finally, now to get another shot when it's lit up at night...

I would call this Gothic Victorian architecture. Love it!

Thank you, it's a place I try to get to often. I plan to ask if I can do a shoot of the interior someday soon.

OMG is that freaking beautiful, I would love to live in a house looking like that.... as long as it is not haunted, orr only by a very friendly ghost *lol*

I agree, in fact they have psychic fairs there every Halloween season..it's quite a neat house...my husband's great grandmother was born in that house, she was a Sachs, but it's out of the family now. We've watched fireworks from in front of it and it looked like they were right in front of us..the rest of the year, it's host to a victorian tea room.

Why thank you, the interior is even nicer. The house is sadly out of the family now but it's open to the public in any case. I'd have been nervous to raise kids there because it's perched on a steep embankment.

Indeed, interesting history. I am surprise some of your husband's family did not get involve in this house since being the Sachs. I guess they want no part of it. But interesting as they say may be haunted. Did they say who the ghost may be?

That side of the family sold the Manor but here's a website with some of the history, [link] as for the ghost, there are speculations that it's the wife of a former owner but nothing substantial has come up to support the theory.

I read the history. I was just curious about the ghost and wondered who. Just a theory would do. Thanks.

It looks even better with a bit more green around it. Skene Manor is on the national register of historic places, it earned that title in 1974. My husband's grandmother was a Sachs and was born in the Manor which lends a rather interesting twist to it all as his relatives and my relatives both lived in Whitehall for many years. It's believed to be haunted and when the people of the town of Whitehall started to renovate and return this "castle" to it former glory, they held psychic fairs there during the month of October which I believe they still do. I'm not sure how many rooms there are but they do have tours and luncheons are served in the tea room on the weekends. The Manor has come a long way from what it had deteriorated into. This website will give more info if you're interested..[link] I thought I had posted the shot I took from the front yard of the Manor but I didn't. That's another thing i'll have to remedy.
