I'm actually enlisting after I get out of TRS. As long as I can get past boot camp, I have the connections to be assigned to the MP.

Even if I miss my shot, after four years of service (if you've done any federal service really) you can apply to be a government handler. That include Border patrol, bomb dogs, customs dogs, ect. I considered police as well, but I'm not much for politics.

Unfortunately I'm stuck with a 14 month commitment so I can't leave home until my dog is placed (I'm raising a service dog).

It's not luck, it's initiative -I didn't have the connections until I worked for them. Just study up, keep your mind open on techniques. You could probably find a local trainer to apprentice with! A lot will offer you a job after you've finished if they like your mood and have the open position. ^^
