I have a love hate relationship when it comes to fanart. I think it is lazy, and a cheap way for artists on here to get pageviews, especially if all they post is fanart.That being said, most professional artists end up drawing someone else's stuff. I also really like looking at other people's interpretations of stuff.
I also really like Bulbasaurs.

On the subject about fanart, I personally draw fanart because I like drawing what I like(which are Sonic, Pokemon, etc). I don't really draw for pageviews, which, aside from some drawings, most of them doesn't have 1000 views(or 500).
On the subject of your drawing, it's cute. Poor shiny bulbasaur seem to lost his grip with his brothers.

Not without a google search. I'm 58 years old. I only have a passing knowledge with pokemon. When they came out, my youngest was already into his late teens and he was more interested in sports. So I can honestly judge the art on its own merit rather than fan appeal. I still love this

I only meant in that you're on dA, there's one on the front page at regular intervals. In the number system these little guys are no.1 and most people who know of pokemon know of this guy. And Pikachu, the little hussy.
And fan appeal has nothing to do with it, I love their little fat squat toad bodies.

Bulbasaur isn't my favorite starter, but it is my favorite starter to draw.
Cyndaquil is my favorite starter, there just isn't as much to love about his design.

I don't normally do Fan Art. I used to be completely against it. But as you've probably noticed, I've done a lot more lately. It may sound crass, but I think fan art is my preferred way of finding artists I like and vice versa. It's less aggressive than actually advertising, and sort of allows for a connection with the audience you hope to entertain as well. Also, I've been working on the same damn comic for a year, and want to post stuff! It's gets so lonely sometimes, and it's nice to do a little something people can enjoy while you work on your personal project. But I agree that sometimes, it just becomes too much.
