Well, it was and yet wasn't all that deep. Most of it went over my head when I was a kid. Evangelion still wins the psychological conditions/disorders 'deepness' award. I was surprised to learn that there was an art connection between the angels and the D-Reaper later on. I see it now, but I didn't at the time.

Yep, I'm well aware Evangelion takes the proverbial cake in that aspect. Still, Digimon is a quite nice introduction to the mindscrew the aforementioned is.

You know, I have yet to find a better mindscrew. You know of any that at least come close?

Depends on what kind of mindscrew you're looking for. In regards to "serious" mindscrew, Neon Genesis Evangelion is kinda hard to beat, Boogiepop Phantom and Serial Experiments Lain do get close. For "funny" mindscrew I'll certainly refer to FLCL, Paprika, Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei and the like.

Paprika wasn't all that good I thought... too hard to follow. FLCL is fun on the 3rd watch, (when I finally figured out what was going on).
Kino's Journey was a rather dark and screwy examination of the human condition, but the characters were more or less vehicles (pardon the pun) to drive the points home. Evangelion was also a dark examination of the human condition but it was far more character driven, with all the depth that goes with it- the giant monsters fighting at the end of the world were almost insignificant when contrasted with the issues of a handful of people who had to live through it.
Anyway... I tend to like character driven stories with solid world building to back them up. I just can't find many of them.

I'm 23 T.T I was oldish for it when it first came on (way back in September 99). Because of Digimon and me trying to draw them I actually taught myself some art basics, and probably wouldn't be what I am today.
So, yay.

I used to be insanely into it. But I got better!
Well, I relapsed a bit. I still like quite a few of the monster designs.

I like the monster designs for many of them, it was more of a... I couldn't stand the voice acting and writing... thing.

Yeah, the dubs were horrible. But I was 12 at the time, so I wasn't exactly discerning, (though looking back season 3 was ok, especially the subbed version). I had a bigger problem with the organization of the monsters- ie what evolved into what, and how the world worked. I think Pokemon is still going strong largely in part because of the Pokedex, and that there are clear rules regarding monsters and evolution. Not so with Digimon- that's why I like that comic I linked up there, it actually made SOME sense.

Well, they have most of all the seasons and movies up on youtube somewhere. Subbed and dubbed.
Go read this comic, it's better than most of the seasons of Digimon anyway: [link]
