Description

Pastel Paper 23x21 cm

Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencils

White gouache paint (vibrissa)

This drawing I want to dedicate to a tiger, named Amber. Once I was visiting the Zoo to do sketches of different animals. I always started with visiting the wild cats. And that day I was attracted by the tiger cage. Usually the tiger was hiding in his house or sleeping on a big stone, so he was not visible. But that morning he was sitting in sight straight near the metallic grid. It was an early morning and there was no other visitors around. I came closer to the cage and suddenly the tiger turned to me. In complete silence we were looking at each other. That was a very beautiful animal, gigantic and with bright eyes. His name was Amber. I would never forget how this beautiful wild beast looked at me.
Several years after there was a very hot summer and unfortunately the tiger died of overheating. That was very long ago but I remembered his look forever. It seemed that time that he was very similar to a human and understands all. That’s why I want to dedicate this picture to him.
Remember that we must protect the wildlife and rare animals!

My own personal experience with, at the time, a Ligress (1/2 Bengal Tigress & 1/2 African Lioness) named Miss Fyre. She owned a university professor from UNC Chapel Hill, as part of an ongoing study to determine how many generations it would take to domesticate tigers, because, by their estimations, there would be any left in the wild 50 years from then (2003).
She loved milk from a baby bottle and was a big girl! She weighed in at nearly 600# and was 12 yrs old at the time. You see me feeding here:
