Short Story Time! Yuno and Zeek meet again

One minute was all it took for Zeek to come speeding down the hallways back to Yuno’s table. With a proud grin and a stylish slide forward, he flicks his wrist to present his friend with the book she requested.

“Here you go! Told you I’m the best at scanning the aisles. Basically memorized them all at this point.”
“Thank you, Zeek.” Yuno smiled and took the book from him. It was a journal filled with watercolor illustrations and detailed entries regarding one artist’s exploration of the Caravine Cliffs. Yuno had stumbled into the cliffs once as a child but she felt that her one visit did not do any justice towards the true beauty of the landscape. She wanted to read about it from a learned artists’ perspective and study the water color technique within the book.
She had been busy volunteering her time at the Cranny to help her brother get a Sun Room through chores. Now that he submitted an application, Yuno figured it was time for her to take a much needed day off. She was happy to see a familiar face at the library but was also a little astounded.

“I’m surprised you’re still here.” She said turning the cover of the book open. “ I thought you would’ve left this town the minute your baby spot faded.”

"You WOULD think that-" Zeek sighed propping his elbows up on the table. "But alas... I'm still here."

"What happened?"

"My parents happened." Zeek mumbled. “Said they wouldn’t let me travel because I’m too young! Also the fact that I'm broke, havent mastered any magic, and my wings aren’t fully grown in yet!"

He takes a breathe before slamming his paws on the table. “Well its not fair I say! My wings shouldn’t have to play any part in the decision since neither of them sport any wings of their own! There are plenty of wingless wyngrew out there who are taking trips just fine!”

Yuno blinks. A little bewildered as her blue birdy friend continues his fast-paced ramble.

“And you saw me just now right? I used wind magic to come down the hallway! Lickety-split speedy movement! So I know magic. I just haven’t mastered it completely! But its rare for wyngrew to know the ins and outs of an entire magical element all the way to it's advanced degree. So if we’re using the word ‘literally’ of course I havent mastered any magic! Who has!?"

Yuno nodded along. She... understood? Or so she thought.

"And if you were wondering about my money situation... I've been accepting tips for my speedy book-finding duties. Almost got enough to buy a hefty backpack off of my folks. Don't tell Iset I've been collecting coins though." Zeek extends an empty paw out to Yuno. "No pressure... But some pressure. I want to get out of town after all."

The biped shook her head. "Sorry I don't have anything to give."

"Figures..."

"I'm sorry your parents are keeping you from following your dreams though."

Zeek smiled and propped himself up on a chair. “Thank you but I’m alright. I’ve been rebelling against them by staying holed up in this library day in and day out. They cant stop me from reading every book in this place! I’m sure it TOTALLY irks them out."

Yuno chuckled. “So thats what you do all day? Sounds like you have nothing better to do.”

He huffed and frowned. A little bothered by the truth she spoke. He didnt answer her, but she was right. Zeek didn't really know what to do as a supposed "rebellious teenager" to get back at his parents. He just liked the library and enjoyed staying cozy between the shelves with a good novel.

“Well.. Would you like to go to the Caravine Cliffs with me? We can spend the afternoon taking a look around.” She tucked the nature journal under her arm and stood up off the chair. Zeek gazed at her with eyes wide with astonishment and flattery.

"You want to... Hang out with me?"

“Sure.” Yuno grinned. “I figure it would be nice to visit the cliffs and see the sights in person. I can help you with your wind mag-”

Before Zeek finished listening to her, he propped his little tyke, Atom, onto his shoulder and bolted out the door with his speedy movement. Yuno was impressed by his steps being relatively silent with his movement. But upon glancing at Iset’s face at the front desk, she looked rather bemused by the blue boy.
"What a curious wyngro..." Yuno mumbled to herself. She could tell he was excited to hang out with someone and go exploring to spite his parents. Though was it really spiting them? Everything Zeek did sounded relatively tame... and the Caravine Cliffs weren't that far off of Wynsiph's borders. Yuno checked the journal out and met Zeek outside the library.

It was then that they began their stroll through the town and headed for the cliffs...
