Although I usually disdain some animu versions of Samus, I find this acceptable. :3

This is just strikingly beautiful! Your line art and coloring on this are fantastic! Great job! The crispness of your line work is just gorgeous!!

May I ask what program (or programs) you used to get this final piece looking this way? Is this a scanned image or totally done digitally? I have to do a combination because I just can't get good line art done digitally only yet so I have to scan my line arts.

Thank you very much for the wonderful compliment~

I used Paint Tool SAI, I highly recommend it. I do everything entirely digital. I don't have a scanner either way. Practice makes perfect.

WOW! You did this all on SAI? Just incredible. I use SAI myself but only for coloring from my scanned images. I just can't get the steady line quality if I don't use a scanner. Amazing work!

Like I said, practice makes perfect. I have been using SAI for 4 years.[link] I had been playing around with the brush settings for shading. I use the airbrush tool with 4-6 pixels. As for this one, I used the brush tool on prolly 9-12 pixels.

Here are some of the stuff I did. Hope you them resourceful enough.

Wow! That's a long time! I have just been using Photoshop with my scanned lines for about 12 years now I think, coloring that way. Most of my older work is that. I only recently (about a year ago or so) got into SAI and started exploring all of the things they offer in terms of brushes and control.

I have been using each tool and playing around with them to explore how each one works for me in terms of what I want to do with it. Each piece on here has been done in a different type of tool that SAI has offered such as Pen, Airbrush, Brush, Water, Marker, Binary and Ink Pen. I have been experimenting with them all and I have to lean on loving the Binary and Ink Pen most of all.

I just don't have good results when I use the brush tool very much... :S Maybe it is just from a lack of knowing the right settings to use. What type of head to you use for the brush itself? Rounded? Course? I think that is what limits me in some ways right now is not knowing what brush type is right for the type of line I want.

Oh!! Thank you very much for these two examples of how you do your work. They are most helpful indeed!

About the one where you say you use 5-15 different layers for line art, why do you have that many layers? Each one is a different piece of the overall picture? I mean I do that for the coloring parts but I never thought to do it for the line art.

I'm glad you found them helpful.

I have this habit of doing lineart in several layers. It also helps to individually edit them. Have you ever tried fiddling with the 'Min. Size' setting on the tools? It controls the sharpness of the tool. Another helpful way of shading is that you shade with the pen tool, then blend it with the Water tool.

Yes, thank you! They were very helpful to me. I am trying them out right now with a few new pieces I am working on.

I see. So that is why.

No, I have never even touched that slider before. I had no idea what it did, just noticed it down there. I only played with the size slider itself.

Blend it with the water tool? Doesn't that make it blur the line too much though or are you saying go back directly over the line with the water tool? I'll have to try that out with my next piece after these two I am fiddling with.
