I really don't think Sonic is black, mostly because his skin as a Hedgehog is shown as much lighter, and most depictions of Sonic the Human that are dark-skinned seeems to give him dreads, which he also doesn't have.Β

I think people are only doing that because of that one time he was voiced by a black dude.

I think I've only seen one other black humanization that gave him dreads? I think the reason that people give him dreads is to try to translate his mess of a "hairstyle" into something that could realistically exist without going the whole "spiky, shonen anime hair" route.
I dunno, I just really like the interpretation, and I don't really take the "skin in normal form" into consideriation when it comes to humanizations anyways; it's usually WAY too restricting.
Besides, characters like Shadow, Ray, and Rouge do have darker muzzles, but I rarely see that translate into their humanizations anyways.
Sorry if it sounds like I'm coming down on you for not seeing Sonic as black! Everyone has different rules and interpretations when it comes to humanizations and I respect that.

Shadow and Rouge are just tanned. Sonic's "hair" is SUPPOSED to be spike, shonen anime hair. He's a HEDGEHOG for crying outloud.

I agree. I know this comment is old but Sonic was designed in Japan, the homeland of spiky anime hair xD So it only makes sense. And I agree with the muzzles.

I think it's because...y'know jaleel white and when he voiced sonic he wanted him to make sonic should like neither black nor white but rather sounding more black with all that hip-hop fancy talk.

hmm, i remember reading up on that on tvtropes, so yeah, that's a pretty good point!
like the cool thing about jaleel white's voicing was that it could literally be applied to ANY RACE so yeah, that was pretty cool of him to do!
heh, to be honest i was more inspired by this sonic [link] than mr. white's voice work.
