Description
This piece has two meanings, three if you count my violent urges.

The first, is for school<3 specifically for sociology. We were given the very wide topic of race to cover. And full disclosure i am very white. And im not qualified to speak on a lot of topics in that category. So i chose something that i felt that i could.

The piece I’ve made depicts a fleshy hellscape with a shadowed creature ripping into it. The creature represents the person who looks for biological differences as a way to justify their racism. It’s relentless and irrational. The hellscape is all the same no matter where it digs, and it’s ultimately futile.

I wanted to draw something in this vein, because the people with the resources or voice to demand it, have looked inside and out of black and other racial minorities bodies and minds for anything worth saying there's a difference over. It’s something that made me particularly mad, because at my old, very conservative school, it was taught that there was a biological difference between races. Which as a kid, who wasn’t stupid, I found out otherwise so I never grew up believing that notion.

Something that I think should always be discussed when it comes to topics like this, is who is ascribing these differences, and why. Pretty obvious question but important nonetheless, because having the wrong people making the wrong conclusions leads to more and more social and systemic problems. The people who ascribed biological differences in the past were racist quacks using a non-science, example being phrenology, the study of superficial differences in the human skull, used to determine physiological traits. This mode of stupidity has a name, it's called the scientific method fallacy. It describes a the process of believing that all science and math is a pragmatic system, and you can’t trust anything without it, this also relies on logos and ethos, that your average person would trust someone conducting these experiments, both as the fact that they are a quote, expert, in this subject, and once again that all science is inherently pragmatic and trustworthy. You can also use the higher authority fallacy in this situation, for reasons that should be obvious at this point.

And for me and how I’m interpreting this, people who have continuously searched for a difference, seemingly without hindrance at times. Are relentless monsters, content with claiming there's a difference and using weak or circumstantial evidence to protect their racism. It's devoid of compassion and sympathy, it’s cruel, and a complete disregard of humanity.

The second meaning. Similar to the first, people relentlessly looking for information and answers to questions they dont have in trans peoples bodies and mind. We should all be aware of how bad the climate is for trans folk right now. And im lucky enough to live in a state where my healthcare is secure. Others are not so lucky. But the media, or even my own family just keep digging into trans people, trying to ‘understand’ it when in reality they’re just trying to break it down so they can prove us wrong about our own bodies. Anything they can find, they will take it, and run with it. There’s a lot. This goes for our medical providers too, one of the reasons that i got on HRT so fast was because my mental health was firmly in my control, and that they could easily diagnose me with gender dysphoria. Which frankly. Shouldnt be a diagnosis. When cis people can get the same care i want and need without a second thought, a woman can get a hysterectomy with ease, i need a therapist a psychiatrist a doctor 12 months of wanting a hysterectomy and 2 witnesses saying i want a hysterectomy. Why is it when i want to do something as simple as that I am met with door after door that someone else has to open for me if they deem me worthy of it.
